Went to start my car earlier and the key just turned all the way round without any resistance. It would turn 360 clockwise and anticlockwise. I managed to get the key out and noticed that the car wouldn't lock with the fob, probably down to the immobiliser and ignition switch.
Anyway, I went...
I had an Audi free mot a few years back when they did them as part of a scheme. My 8L S3 failed its mot because the rear shocks were shot and they had priced up a pair with labour. I said no problem, give me the keys and ill bring it back in a few days for its free retest. Found a set of used...
I had this same argument with a car dealer when I bought my wife's mk5 golf GT TDI. It was on 76k miles and hadn't had a cam belt. The seller was telling me that it was fine but id already spoken to VW and they'd told me 5 years or 75k and the car had gone past both. I ended up getting the...
You can buy a vag lock picking key for about £15 online and I've been shown on my own A3 how the drivers door lock can be opened in less than a minute. In this situation you obviously need to stop the alarm from sounding but this sounds more plausible than a key code recorder being used just to...
I'd never get a generic flash map again. Had one on my 8L S3 and it ran lean. Cracked my turbo, exhaust manifold, and cylinder head. Map on a rolling road only from now on and I'd go back to RTech if I ever wanted a VAG car mapping again.
Going to pick up my car today. It was meant to be ready yesterday but they fitted the clutch and box, fired up the car to be greeted by a loud screeching noise so had to take the box off again. They found that the brand new clutch release bearing they'd just fitted was missing a piece of metal...
Ok, so I have news....
The garage (general local garage) that fitted the clutch kit last year have over done it with the grease on the spline. This grease has splattered all over the clutch. So I have a new clutch plate and pressure plate on order. Very annoyed but at least I now take my car...
Just did a quick search for this clutch plate and on the DS website it says that part number is only good for 355lbft!

This is the kit I have fitted but it doesn't list the...
Good man thanks. Car goes into the garage for investigation on Tuesday. If a warranty claim can be had it'll be for a straight swap on the whole kit. SMF, pressure plate and clutch rated to 400lbft. If the clutch is actually worn (which I cant believe) ill look at the part numbers you've posted...
Car is booked in on 18th to have the clutch out and inspected. Hoping that it might be possible to claim a new clutch on warranty if the slave cylinder has failed or something.
No worries, I think i've just been extremely unlucky. The Flywheel and pressure plate is only 15K miles old too so I'll just replace the clutch plate with something compatible. I'll contact Darkside/Sachs regarding the failure and see if they can help at all.
Thanks Alex. I had a southbend clutch kit on before hand and that failed and took the gearbox out with it. I wouldn't mind so much if I tracked the car or drove it hard but most of my journeys are either 30mph traffic areas or 70mph motorway cruising!
Well, 1 year and 15K miles (normal driving) on and this clutch has started to slip! Apparently rated to 400lbft of torque and a life expectancy of 50K - 60K miles!
Not best pleased. Can anyone recommend another clutch plate that has lasted for them?
