    Audi A3 E-tron

Yeah, I'm concerned that you actually lose more than that but the proof will be in the photos I suppose. That said my dealer has just told me that to chang mid-lease, and particularly this early (3 months!) into the lease would make it just uneconomical for me. :( Kind of what I expected...

    Audi A3 E-tron

Yeah that looks pretty similar in shape to ours so that's be interesting to see. Coming from a Mondeo the A3 was a huge step-down in boot-space so I'm really on a knife edge as to how much more I can sacrifice!

Unless you happen to have four large hockey bags and a child's buggy to try I'll settle for pics!

Very interested to hear how you get on! If you could snap a couple of pics of the boot-space for me that would be greatly appreciated. I'm planning on sticking to the leasing model at least for a few years so I'd only be likely to keep the car for three years before changing again so hopefully...

    Audi A3 E-tron

Yeah it should be! I'll be able to fill it up at work too and as the office has the utilities included in the rent and is 28 miles from home I'll hopefully be able to drive home for free! At this stage though I really need to test-drive it as I'm keen to get a feel for it and see if the...

    Audi A3 E-tron

Sounds about right to me. I've been running my calculations on the basis of 3p/mile in electric costs. Interestingly enough I've been running the numbers for the e-tron against my current 184 and speccing the e-tron to the same level it looks like it would be cheaper for me even if all the...

Me too. My understanding is that the killer is the HVAC system. I think heating the car in particular is a massive drain on the battery as there isn't any waste heat to make use of.

+1 Also the ability to warm the car up on a morning using my phone whilst having breakfast would be a real game-changer for me!

    Audi A3 E-tron

Probably, but how many of us will still be running the same car in 8 years time? Maybe we'll all be driving metal-air electric cars or flywheel/hydrogen fuel cell hybrids by then!

    Audi A3 E-tron

Yeah but you're not really comparing apples to apples here. If you were in the market for a ~200bhp car that has really good fuel economy and a low BIK rate you're probably comparing the A3 e-tron to the A3 184 TDI Quattro. When you factor in the rebate, the inclusion of things like LED lights...

    Audi A3 E-tron

Problem is that they'll never be able to summarise fuel consumption meaningfully in a single figure. It's a problem currently with cars (look at the real-world consumption of a diesel over short journeys) but it'll be immeasurably worse for hybrids. For someone commuting within the range of...

    Audi A3 E-tron

Yeah, it's not the slam-dunk I'd have thought and that's not even accounting for the inevitable petrol usage I'd have on longer / unexpected journeys. If the price were to come in closer to the TDI pricing, then it'd make a logical three-way split of engine choices: High mileage, long...

    Audi A3 E-tron

If your commute is 30miles each way (i.e. the best possible case of never putting fuel in the hybrid) then a 60mpg diesel (at £1.34/L) will cost you around £132/mth in fuel. The electric car is a bit trickier to get figures for, but some websites suggest it can be as low 3p/mile which would...

    Audi A3 E-tron

Hmm, having seen the basic spec I'm less interested in it than I was. Bit annoyed that they've added so much in as standard as there are things in there (LED lights, MMI Nav, Audi Connect, Advanced Key) that I'm just not interested in and wouldn't use. I'd much rather they drop the basic spec...

    Audi A3 E-tron

Even if you couldn't charge at work though you'd be able to half your fuel consumption by doing the trip in on the battery. For daily figures of up to 100 miles or so I can easily see how this would save a lot of money.

    Audi A3 E-tron

Horses for courses though. At the minute, diesel is the smart choice for high mileage and long journeys while small petrol can be better for stop start. If you're racking up 20,000+ per year doing 100 mile journeys I'd imagine the e-tron is not for you. If your commute is short enough that...

I think you're missing the point here. It's not about 'right' or 'wrong' it's about fitting the theory to the observations and using the theory to make predictions about the future. Right and wrong don't even come into it. Newton's laws of motion and gravity were (and indeed still are)...

Could be worse, I hear that you do get quattro as standard with a horse and the diff is leaps and bounds ahead of Haldex as it can apply 100% torque to any corner at any time. Only problem is the ride quality is terrible, especially given how high it rides on standard suspension.
