No EML light, but it will store a code when checked via diagnostics equipment / main dealer / VCDS etc.
if i need to take mine into the dealers for anywohk, i will plug them back in and then clear the codes.
Yup.
It takes 5 minutes, go try it. Soon as you start it up, you'll hear a difference!
It's how I opted to do it on my s3.
I had an s1 prior and planned on doing it but got rid of it after a month
it can be done via VCDS ( i know S3 8V adaption, not sure if its the same for the S1)
i just disconnected them on the S3 though!
engine off, and they're open. so disconnect that, and when you start the engine, they won't close.
One of the reasons I rejected my S1 in the end was exactly this.
It would slip like crazy at times and even in the end come out of gear!
They changed the clutch and flywheel...Although I didn't have it much after that to see if it rectified the issue.

Oh sweet! There is a black one local too but that's it.
I've chopped mine in for an S3 now though.
For ages I was looking for another local s1 to do some comparisons with whilst mine kept faulting but at the time, there was only 7 in the UK!
Dartmoor is deffiently the place to test it out...
