    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

Few suggestions based on my learning curve: - That is a very complex repair. I'd insist the job be given to a Master Technician, not any technician. - I'd ask any updates/guidance from the service advisor be in writing/email. Especially if they told you that it is safe to drive around now, i'd...

Also, check this out for DQ381 basics and tuning (caution: it is lengthy!) https://ecutek.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SUPPORT/pages/1702953321/VW+AG+DQ381+Transmission+tuning

Seem like you're not getting a direct answer. While my car is completely stock and i'm not really the intended person to answer your question, I've learned more than i wanted on the 34L4 by observing the the open guts of the transmission in the workshop and talking to techs and tracing part...

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

In my case, they are repairing the gearbox, not replacing it. Depending on whether they catch the pump's failure in its early stage , it can be a repair (typically two days)

Thanks. I wonder about the workings of this situation now; why would gearbox install cause keys to be reprogrammed? I knew about key programming need for Instrument cluster replacements, but so strange to hear the same for the gearbox change. Also, in my case they are repairing the gearbox, not...

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

My 34L4 related hydraulic pump replacement repair is taking unnecessarily long. It will hopefully be completed next week. In talking to one of the service advisors, he said to bring the spare key for reprogramming; he thinks a DSG flash wipes out the key synch. I know there is the concept of the...

One more note on this situation... For anyone willing to tackle this situation on heir own (and perhaps wanting to avoid the TCU update, but seeking peace of mind around their DSG gearbox not self destroying), the repair kit is around 400 GBP. Furthermore you'll need lots of DSG oil which is...

see DSG image below for the red circled area. An electric motor is placed outside and drives the the auxiliary hydraulic fluid pump. This electric motor is bolted to the outside of the clutch housing. It can be replaced without opening the Transmission. Unfortunately, not the case with the...

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

The offending manufacturing defect, auxiliary hydraulic fluid pump, sits deep inside the gearbox. The replacement process is very involved; lots of special tools needed and good technician skillset necessary. It is definitely a transmission out job and tear down... Mechatronic removed, dual...

As i continue to learn about this situation, here is something new to me... There is a repair kit for the Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump. see link below. https://www.automaticchoice.com/en-gb/0gc-rep01

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

I had a perfectly fine operating DQ381, SKX on a 2017 S3 (30K miles). Car is completely stock and well cared for. After 34L4 software update was flashed onto the car (to reiterate...it ran and shifted perfectly fine before the 34L4 intervention; i do monthly VCDS scans and never seen any gearbox...

    Facelift S3 Brake Disc sizes

For 10+ years, I've been using Zimmerman with no issues. On my MK1 TT and 8P A3, i combined the Zimmermans with Akebono Euro ceramic pads. Almost no brake dust and disc corrosion is minimized too. Ate Ceramic is my second choice.

    8V buying advice….

for the 8V S3, there is a current thread on major DSG headache. I tend to think cars that successfully receive a 34L4 update/check or a new DSG gearbox fitted through the factory campaign will be more desirable. https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/recall-issued-02-09-2022.436058/

Thanks. That explains a lot and helps me connect the dots. While i wait for the gearbox to be repaired, i had the opportunity to see the guts of it. Not my image, but see below; there is a metal cap on the auxiliary fluid pump, cap held down by four small bolts. In my case, the three screws had...

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

While I'm awaiting for the dealer to attempt the repair, i found some workshop study materials and also refreshed my memory on Audi/VW gearbox build codes. the DQ381 is no different... there are various iterations of it; each designated with a 3-letter code. I checked my PR code sticker and...

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

some more progress update on my situation: - A week ago, the software update was flashed into the car. It passed the road test, delivered back to my use, but triggered "gearbox malfunction: you can continue driving in D until engine off" while i was driving it (in 100 miles and within 8 hours)...

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

My concerns became reality now. Gearbox rendered itself faulty; only after 8 hours of receiving the so-called "software update" and 100 miles driven. Now, the dealer is saying the car needs to come back, BUT earliest it can be brought back is in 10 days. I'm posting this here so that you all...

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

update: after the gearbox "broke down" in 8 hours of receiving the so-called "software update", i called the dealer very first thing this morning. Looks like they don't have an action plan in place and i'm still waiting for an answer. Today is a Friday, and if they didn't offer anything in the...

need help from local vcds user

I've had great service with Ross-Tech. "The Single Ticket plan costs $40 and provides the registered user with “live” telephone technical support for a one ticket (one problem, on one car, to be closed out within a 5 business day period)." https://store.ross-tech.com/shop/ts_annual/

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

The car had the "software update" appointment today. Service advisor brought it back in about 30-40 minutes and reported it had passed their road test too (i.e. no transmission/gearbox code). I asked if they were seeing a lot of these kind of cases/appointments , he said he has done about 10...
