    Any problems with the s3?

A browse through the forum will bring up a few things, but chocolate waterpumps are the first thing that spring to mind. They all seem to go eventually, though I don't know if the issue is limited to particular model years.

Basic sound system upgrade (tweeters and rear speakers?)

AFAIK, the A.S.S is just a speaker upgrade over the basic system (and some coding) - the head unit is exactly the same. The A.S.S uses the amp in the head unit, which is a big reason why it's so poor - lack of power (even the sub runs off the HU). If you want to go custom sub and components...

Basic sound system upgrade (tweeters and rear speakers?)

Have you listened to a car with the A.S.S. to compare with yours? I found the A.S.S in the wife's S3 pretty poor - lack of power made it very thin at higher volumes. It may be better than the stock system but not much, and retrofits arent usually cheap - I'd want to be sure it was worth the...

Thinking of BMW M235i Gran Coupe

Quite an opinion considering you can still buy a Nissan Juke [emoji23] Personally I think the M135 looks better but I don't hate the A35. Lucky really because the wife bought one! The A35 may be slower on paper but if anything it felt quicker, probably because the 135i was so subdued. Neither...

Thinking of BMW M235i Gran Coupe

Re the sound, FWIW I test drove an M135i and an A35 and the Merc sounded much better when you opened it up. The BMW was very muted by comparison. Not a fan of the rear styling on that 2 series though!

    S3 8V Turbo problems

Re the manual clutches, ours soldiered on for 60k and slipped for a good portion of that. I found the best test for our clutch was to drive at ~2000rpm in 6th and floor it. The revs would often jump to 3k and then settle as the clutch struggled. It was also incredibly sensitive during low speed...

    S3 8V Turbo problems

I'm not aware of any turbo issues - our (unmapped) 2015 S3's was fine for the few years we had it. However, 8v S3 water pumps are made of chocolate. The pump WILL go, its just a matter of time, so ideally you want one that's already been replaced! As a minimum, check coolant level isn't low and...

    Facelift S3 low coolant

Agreed - that's my plan, assuming they confirm water pump is at fault. And yes, it's out of warranty. I hope the fact I raised the loss of coolant before the warranty expired improves my case for goodwill. Where is the waterpump/thermostat physically located w.r.t to my pic? Is it easy to see...

    Facelift S3 low coolant

The wife's S3 has lost coolant very slowly over the last couple of years and I've been topping it up. Dealer tested the system just before warranty expired and insisted there were no leaks. Low coolant warning came on again yesterday and I noticed several puddles of fluid on the undertray - a...

    S3 running costs

Obviously there's a lot of variables involved but to give you an idea the other half does ~14k/Yr in her S3 and drives fairly gently with a lot of motorway miles. She gets through £50-60 of super unleaded a week (35mpg, but spirited driving will go well below that!), insurance is around £400...

    Tiger capacity battery?

Assuming your car isn't a 2.0 TDI, find the battery for that - it's the largest diesel engine in the range, so likely to take the biggest battery. Alternatively, measure the battery tray and see what will fit. However, if your Dashcam is putting a heavy load on the battery while parked, even a...

    Tiger capacity battery?

It doesn't quite work like that - there's no way you'd want to let the battery go below 80%-ish charge. Partly to ensure you can start the car and partly because regularly discharging a battery below that will dramatically shorten its life. The power management controller for the Dashcam should...

    electronic handbrake..how to use it

I find the EPB on the wife's manual S3 a pain (my car has HHA). I had a nightmare in a tight and steep parking space once because the EPB is very slow to react compared to a manual handbrake, which leads to nervous moments when you've only got 6 inches gap behind the car and keep rolling...

Changing Front Dipped Beam Halogen Bulb (Passenger Side)

I had the same problem on an A3 8P. The manual claimed you could change both bulbs yourself from under the bonnet. Absolute b****cks (unless you're Mr Tickle) but of course you don't know until it's too late and you're past the point of no return! Bulb comes out fine but fitting the new one is...

    efficiency in a manual

In my experience, it doesn't! [emoji3] It dulls the throttle response to the level of an arthritic tortoise, but that just means you push the accelerator harder to compensate...thus any efficiency gains are questionable at best.

Facelift Having trouble with DVD file type compatibility

What he said. Particularly the max resolution and framerate - the MMI is quite fussy. I use Handbrake to convert DVDs to an MMI friendly format and it works well. Just need to setup a custom profile to limit the max resolution and fix the framerate at 25 fps.

Should do - ours (same age) does.

    Facelift S3 2017 - Clutch slipping

Funny, I've had exactly the same clutch issues on our S3 - a pfl with 30k miles, driven fairly gently by the wife. Clutch slips occasionally but entirely at random, at around 2000rpm if you floor it in 6th. I can't reproduce it reliably and of course it wouldn't do it when I took the Audi tech...

    Facelift Headlight misting?

I don't know about the A3 but my A6 LED lights have a fan inside to blow air over the leds towards the front lens. The leds warm the air enough to demist or (slowly) defrost it. The presence of a fan suggests the units aren't sealed, otherwise there wouldn't be any airflow. Certainly my lights...

Time to consider a family-mobile! Opinions please? And yes it is relevant to 8V owners...

I can sympathise, but when you hit a bit of open road in the S3 it's all worth it! I can't understand why people buy Quashqais - the dullest, blandest, most uninvolving thing I've ever had the misfortune to drive. The Wife and I both got out feeling distinctly unimpressed! The higher driving...
