    Turbo/manifold bolts coming loose

torque the bolts correctly, with a good torque wrench, to the correct maximum torque setting for the fastener your using. Swinging off them with a breaker bar isnt the correct way to tighten things, you'll just overtighten the bolt and push it into plastic deformation. I'm not particularly...

    Brake failure

Proper track driving is never an issue, as your not applying brakes while accellerating. The servo has a check valve, and stores a quantity of vacuum ready for use, and the engine replenishes this while braking, which is typically performed with the throttle shut... I dont drift, so i dont...

    Using the O2M for FWD

Surely you just sell the S3 box, and buy a 2wd one?

    Brake failure

I doubt there are any leaks, he was just at WOT and applying the brakes multiple times. Its not really a fault, as in normal use you never brake while at WOT, and the instant you shut the throttle the vacuum is restored. Try it on a straight road. Apply full throttle and hit the brakes a...

Prawn and BigAls A3 Track Car

Prawn: you need a bottoming tap... As for the thermostat, didnt you once tell me it ran way over 100c on track? If thats the case, the stat wont do anything, as the stock one will also have been wide open at that point.

    Found car (arx-aeb)?!

probably had a replacement cylinder head at some point, the AEB engine doesnt fit an A3, it has a different block and is only used in longitudinal cars. The head however does fit the A3, and thats probably what your seeing "AEB" on.

    What to do?!

It very rarely makes sense to convert a car to something you can buy already. Unless you had a lot of time invested into bits that cant be transferred over.

    Stock DV Broken?

A new ones about 30quid, just change it. And yes, mine sounded like your video when it was bust, though as you say, not as prominent, you needed to get a bit of load on it rather than just revving it at idle.

BAM from tt 225 swap into A3 AQA

You definitely want to take the whole TT front end. Steering rack, hubs, wishbones, uprights, subframe, ARB, the whole shebang. Massive improvement over the A3 parts and even better when its all free. I dont see why the engine conversion would be a huge issue. Drop the BAM in complete, saves...

    Update On Cambelt Replacment :(

1.8T really doesnt need any tools for its timing belt. Set crank to TDC mark, set cam to TDC mark, compress tensioner and install pin, install the belt ensuring all the slack is on tensioner side, make sure the belt is tight between the crank/waterpump/cam then pull the pin out the tensioner...

    Help!! Outer cv boot removal.

its a snap ring and its hidden inside the joint. Put the shaft in a vice, with the joint angled downwards, get a lump of metal, i use a blunt cold chisel, and place it against the inner most part of the CV (theres the outer shell, a cage with some balls, then an inner hub) and give it a good...

    AUDI A3 8L 1.8SE 20V 5Dr (2000) 230,000 miles

For tyres, look at Dunlop BlueResponse or Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance. Both get A rated wet grip and are available online for a bit under £40 a tyre. Wont go wrong with either. If your looking at other options, make sure they have A rated wet grip.

Got VCDS and an S3? Help a brotha out...

the percentages are supposed to be different. One starts from 0 and moves towards 100 as the throttle opens, the other starts from 100 and moves towards zero as the throttle opens. This allows the ECU some redundancy. Have you checked the clutch switch within VCDS to ensure its switching over...

Need help with my Cat part number please (A3 1.8T / AUM / 2001)

Hmm.... The part number you've typed isnt quite right, the closest match i can see is 1J2253208SX, which is the downpipe/cat for an AGU engine. Your AUM should have 1J2253208QX I imagine the difference is the AGU cat wont have a location for a rear lambda, whereas the AUM cat will.

    S3 Airbox anyone?

I'm fitting an S3 MAF into my 1.8T A4's airbox, which requires me to enlarge the hole and other messing about. I've got the MAF, but i'm trying to see the velocity stack arrangement that the S3 uses, It should be attached to the airbox lid. The A4's velocity stack is obviously too small, and...

    18t help

Plenty of 8D/B5 1.8T's, but his reg shows an A3. I'll move it to the A3 forum. Regardless of that, the timing belt interval is 5 years or 60k, so regardless the belt is overdue if the guys never changed it.
