It's not a serviceable item, it should last the life of the engine, but they can fail, usually the tensioner. It's not cheap though, I've done many engine rebuilds on a5/4 2.0tfsi (ex Audi tech). It would take about 6 ish hours depending on the tech
There's 2 sides to a service, an inspection which is basically a VHC. Which is done every 2 years or 19000 miles(which ever comes first). then there is the oil change which in your case (being diesel and on long life) should also be 19000 miles and 2 years(which ever comes first). So they need...
You can do the oil yourself, but the inspection light needs to be done by audi, nothing really to look out for, just make sure there's no noises on test drive, wind noise. Cambelt will be due next year.
Bang on! I used be be a technician for Audi up until 3 months ago and I can say people do not do the job properly, when they are bonused on effiencey it's quicker to throw your spark plugs in the bin instead of fit them. They don't care. Take it too a Indy 100%
