Just to add to the never-ending list of faults, my 2004 A3 now has a failed air-con compressor :(
I thought it was just in need of a re-gas as the car has done 80k+ so probably had a lot of use. Basically wasnt blowing cold.
Got a mobile air-con guy out who was really helpful, and he found...
Anyone know if its possible to get this?
I've got a couple of chips on the wheels on my A3 (stand 17" Sport alloys on 2004 2.0 TDi) which I'd like to touch up?
Do Audi offer it?
I think there's a good chance it'll need a load of 'special' tools!
I took my A3 2.0 TDi to a garage to get a wheel-bearing changed, and they said they had only recently got hold of the special tools they needed to do the job!
What mileage/age is the cambelt due btw? My A3 has always had...
I've only done about 500 miles since the remap, and I agree tyre wear will certainly increase, and probably clutch wear too, however I tend to only accelerate hard once the clutch is fully engaged.
I'm happy to accept a higher rate of tyre wear for the extra performance however. Superchips...
27 here. On my first A3, having had A4's previously.
Will be going back to A4's within 6months however, as A3 ownership has not been fun so far unfortunately!
Engine - 140 (remapped to 'apparently' 185bhp)
Average MPG - (49.8 DIS) - mix motorway/city commute
Normal amount of miles per tank - getting 48.5mpg when checked over a tank (forget how many miles the tank did)
Sounds like it could well be. I've just had a rear wheel bearing changed on mine. On the right side of the car, and made a noise when turning left but not right.
Annoying I think one of my front ones is going as well :(
My car has done 80k however.
You can always jack the car up and see if...
I expect you'll grow to like the A3 Garth. I changed from an A4 to an A3 recently, and at first was pretty unimpressed with the step down in build quality - but now the A4 has gone (so I'm not swapping between the 2 cars) I've forgotten about the build issues, and have realised the A3 is a...
Sounds like there's not a lot that can be done then! I think I'll ditch the Linglong's and get some P-zero's to match the rears and hope that improves things a bit!
Quattro would certainly be the answer, but that does really kane the average MPG!
Since getting my 2.0 TDi remapped I've been finding wheelspin to be a real problem! If there's so much as a hint of dampness in the air then without really trying the traction control is on in 1st, 2nd and 3rd!
Turning off the traction control seems to actually help as it cuts in so early on...
That sounds good on paper, however I've got a remapped 140 and the MPG doesn't appear to have taken a knock after the remap at all, despite me tending to use the power more! - still get high 40's! So 30% more power, for 0% more fuel.
I'll second the comment on avoiding the cheap removal keys! Waste of time!
I got some of the more expensive ones (still from eBay) and they did the job fine.
Surprised you're replacing that stereo with an aftermarket one however, IMO non-standard stereo's look seriously crap in the dash, but...
I get high 40's from my 2.0 TDi - that mainly my commute which is 5 miles of urban then 10 miles of motorway taking it steady (65mph).
The 2.0 VAG TDi's (140 and 170) don't seem to be that economical - seems hardly anyone gets the quoted average of 51MPG.
With the petrol cars it seems you...
I wasn't exactly bowled over with the results after getting my A3 2.0 TDi remapped - maybe I'd expected too much as well.
The extra power is noticable in 1st to 4th, but I can't really notice much more in 5th and 6th. Overtaking from say 50 to 80mph is now excellent however.
I would still...
The oil light has just come on in my 2.0 TDi - but what oil do I need to top it up with??
I'm assuming it'll be something like 3W30 fully synthetic - like the Castrol stuff Halfords do for about £15/litre?
Anyone suggest any particular brand, or good place to get the oil from?
Sounds like similar to what I'm getting with my 2004 A3 Sport. I getting an occasional rattling noise from the driver side rear wheel arch, and a drone at higher speeds. It's worse when turning left too.
I'm assuming it's the wheel bearing gone, so am getting that replaced. If it's not that...
