sorry to hijack...I've just bought a B6 S4, and the car has the symphony II head unit in. Volume button is broke, will adjust the volume but the push on/off function doesnt work. If you pull the plastic button off, you can do it with the metal part, it looks like the plastic button has broken -...
andymac, agreed a refund on the 9850...and ordered a unit with 3 RCA's as its replacement. So hopefully should be all OK now......

thanks andymac, although the alpine doesnt have any front and rear RCA's!! Well I dont think so anyway.....its a 9850Ri - the i-pod connector model. I used to have a head unit years ago that had 3 pre-outs...front, rear and sub...is this what I need? the spec of the alpine is as follows:

Been trying to fit a alpine I-pod head unit into my 01 S3 with limited success! I have ordered all the gear I need (or thought I did...) from caraudiodirect.com, which consisted of head unit, a3 facia adaptor (which was the wrong one - end caps were to small for the dash), wiring harness...
I bought it from a garage, so wont be able to contact the old owner until the log book comes through. Then I can only write to him, and cross my fingers for a reply!
the cd changer is working fine...it comes out of all the speakers except the sub. got the bass turned up full, and no thump what so ever.
and now i've put it in safe mode....
steve....all the connectors are plugged in and seem to be connected to something else..ie they dont seem free. I'll nip outside take a photo and post it up

Dead annoying! Only got the car yesterday, reckon the guy before me had a DVD flip out screen in the front (there are 2 screens in the back) and has ******** it up somehow. All the connectors are plugged...
