I only thought it bizarre, as other performing exactly the same actions in the same car as me are showing full boost before launching as seen below (starts from 18 seconds in):

I tried a launch on the way home, I can confirm that whilst the boost was not even reaching 50%, the revs held at 4000rpm and once launched boost reached 100%. I managed to film a video showing this (badly!) along with the steps taken to launch...
