    6speed shift quality query?

Mine shifts pretty smooth, but definitely lets you know when you get it into gear. The only hesitation mine has is when I'm trying to get into 1st when going really slow or completely stopped. Sometimes I have to hold the clutch and pull it into 2nd before finally going into 1st. It never...

    'Safe' on radio display

I started my S4 this morning and the battery seemed a little bit weak. It didn't just turn over like normal. I had been noticing this over the past week or so. The battery must be loosing some power over nght. After it started this morning the radio would not play and the display only reads...

    How easy or hard ??

Mine has the UUC model installed, but it was in there when I got the car. To get reverse you practically pinch the leather boot against the console trim and the shifter. I hear the stock shifter is pretty long, so it's a nice improvement in the shifter throw.

    S4 vs 3000GT

I found GTO specs and S4 specs can be found on here somewhere. Gear ratios can make cars perform diferently. These two cars have nearly identical final drive gearing, but the S4 is shorter (better for acceleration) in 1st, 4th 5th and 6th. 0-60 usually only uses 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd. They...

    How Low? What Size?

My car sits about that low and it's only got a Bilstein/Eibach kit with no ride height adjustment. Look at my cardomain page to see pics of it with the stock 17s.

How does our Quattro System work?

I take it my S4 has 2 torsen LSDs then, one in the rear and one in the center. It is difficult to read and still difficult to see how it works with just mechanical drawings. I'd like to see video of it in action. To me the drawings make it seem that it's an over-complicated posi unit than an...

How does our Quattro System work?

[ QUOTE ] qa4blake said: Our system during normal driving is a 90/10 split. I have also had some clutch slippage during slightly high launches and hard turns. Instead of a wheel turning over or the car loosing traction, the clutch takes on the burden almost like a traction control would. Not...

How does our Quattro System work?

The S4s have ESP (Electronic Stability Program) that seems to work via the anti-lock braking system. It's pretty effective and flashes a little light in the tach when it's working. It seems to transfer all of the strain to the clutch though, as I've had the clutch slip a few times when ESP was...

    Acceleration test - EVERYONE TRY...

I've got a spreadsheet that helps calculate speed at rpm based on tire size and gear ratios. According to the chart, My S4 should be hitting 100mph at 6802 rpm. This spreadsheet has no aerodynamic figures added in, so I may be shifting to get 100 also. What RPM is the rev limiter set at in...

    Exhaust and Chipping Questions??

Wow, I can't believe this post has gone unanswered. Try searching the forums. There is a standard reply that you should find with plenty of links to chip and exhaust suppliers. Oh, look at the links section of this site as well. My car has the stock chip and exhaust, so I don't really have...

    Brake pad upgrade choices

After looking at my brake pads, I can see that I'll be in need of some replacements before too long. I'd rather have the pads before I need them, and would like to get a higher performance pad, since I'll at least be autocrossing and perhaps even hitting a track in my S4. I've seen various...

    Wheel spacers

SubaruSTi... here's a previous post about the spacers on my car....A4 Suspension topic from June 26, 2004 Sorry, I don't know exactly where the spacers came from.... I've seen spacers on a few sites though. Check out ECStuning.com This link is for S4, so you may want to look for an A4 page...

    16" wheels on B5 S4

Has anyone had experience fitting 16" wheels on a 2001 S4. There seems to be enough clearance for the diameter. It will likely come down to the outward face of the caliper that needs clearance. I wonder if any other OEM Audi/VW wheels will fit. The reason I'm asking is that I want to...

BUYING A4 COMON FAULTS? M,N,P REG?

I have to agree with you Andy. I just bought my 2001 S4 for more than 10% under the book value. I could have spent that same money on a newer, though lesser vehicle and been agonizing over the depreciation, and wishing I had more features like this S4 has. As for vanity plates, I'm actually...

    Disappointing horn volume

The horn sounds pretty decent with the hood (as we call the bonnet in the US) raised. But with the hood closed, like I hope it would stay while I'm driving, still a little weak to get the attention of the driver of a poorly driven vehicle with the windows raised and radio playing. So does the...

    Disappointing horn volume

I had an occaision to use my horn today when I had to avoid hitting a lady in a pickup failing to yeild the right-of-way, to me. I noticed her looking over her shoulder (not in my direction) as if she was trying to figure out where the honking was coming from. I'm not sure if she ever saw me...

    thinkin of buyin a4

Are you trying to decide between A4 models with 1.8T and 2.8(normally aspirated) V6? The subject line said S4. Just wondering. There seem to be an nearly unlimited list of upgrades for either turbo motor. I'm new to the 2001 S4, but am very pleased with it's stock power and torque. My only...

    Audi A4 Suspension

The wheel spacers were installed for aesthetic reasons. They move the wheels out to the very edge of the fenders. Here are pics to show how far the wheels are moved outward. Now the front spacer and the rear spacer finally the stock alloys... these are the stock alloys, right? I...
