    If anyone's interested, I had the same on the wife's 1.4 TFSI when I bought it. Had the timing chain and cam adjusters replaced which completely cured the cold start rattle. It's been 70k miles since and still no rattle.

    I thought they all had variable timing? I had the timing chain and cam adjuster replaced just after I bought it at considerable cost as it had chain rattle on startup. Been rock solid since, but the thing is gutless. I'm actually trying to get the wife into a m135i or m140i but she hates BMW's. Lol

    Yes, don't switch the ignition on once you've disconnected the passenger airbag switch plug from the glove box! Otherwise you'll be stuck with a permanent airbag light like I am now. Getting the motor out is dead easy. Take the glove box out which will give you full access to the motor. Then...

    Sorted it. The motor was seized for some reason. Cleaned it out, oiled the bearings and checked the brushes. Working like a charm now. Since no one seems to know where the hedgehog is, it's in the motor housing itself.

    Reset ABS Light

    There is no fault. I took out the glove box and disconnected the passenger airbag switch, then turned the ignition on. This has caused the airbag light to come on permanently, so it needs to be reset.
