I swapped from the factory contis (managed to eek 8500 out of them in the end) and swapped them for Michelin PS3's back in May. They immediately transformed the ride comfort and also got rid of the awful tram lining that it was suffering regularly...
Just wanted to add my opinion into the discussion here, as I thought I was going mad, but the last 2 weeks have been a revelation.
Last July took delivery of an A4 2.0 TDI Quattro with Continentals on from the factory. Incredibly skittish and tramlined on any road surface that wasn't massively...

I am seeing the same issue on ours - 6300 miles and down to 3.5mm on the fronts and 5.5mm on the rears.
I figured it could be due to 3 things:
- Very soft compound of the Contis
- Audi Hill Assist
- The fact that the car does about 5 miles of stop start...
