This is a common fault on VAG cars and is caused by dirt/limescale etc building up on the metal prongs in the header tank. You can either change the tank (they're not too expensive) or try to clean the prongs with some wire wool or similar. It always seems to be worse in the cold weather.

I say "should" as it is listed as doing so on the rosstech website. The part number is 1K0 953 549 A. The pin 13 wire wasn't present when I initially fitted the cruise, so I was double checking my own work really. Thanks for any thoughts.
