Suggest you take each for a test drive in turn, make sure you have operated all functions inc central locking then get someone to connect vagcom this will give you most of the faults.

I tow a caravan with a 2.5tdi tiptronic. Tows like a dream I have towed with Land Rovers and big Volvos this is the best.
But as previously respondent says stay clear of multitronic boxes.
These engines run fine at high mileages I'm on 85k. But timing belt replacement on these is due at 80k...
I haven't timed changes on my 2001 module but 20-30 secs seems about right. Level light blinks whilst change is in process.
Haven't noticed a 'rear first' tendency.
