    Which battery '96 A4 1.8 T with aircon

Hmmm. Seems to be a bit of a minefield. All the batteries in question (027, 006 and 009) supposedly have a height of 190mm? I am going to have to stop being lazy, get out the tape measure and go out in the cold. :lmfao:

    Which battery '96 A4 1.8 T with aircon

Sorry to dig this thread up (its only a few months old so maybe still warm)... Was it confirmed that the grand voyager battery would fit a B5? Would this also be suitable for a non turbo 1.8? Mal

    ABS warning and VCDS Lite...

Went through the COM port thing already - my laptop from last year is dead, so VCDS lite on the Mrs laptop instead. Adjusted the baud rate settings to get a good connection aswell. Ah, I was wondering about the k line, whether it was the abs or head unit (though worked-ish last year...

    ABS warning and VCDS Lite...

I think I read about your attempts to DIY on the thread with the guide. That's what made me ask the question... The only thing holding me back of the remanufactured module is I am probably going to be selling the car shortly after i've MOT'ed it in the next few weeks. I may also have some...

    ABS warning and VCDS Lite...

Wayhey! My ABS light is on along with the red warning in DIS and the obligatory loud beeps. So, I plug in my ebay special cable, and try to read the fault code with VCDS lite... ...and nothing. Nothing as in cannot see any modules. I seem to recall about this time last year (well before the...

Only key fob needs recoding; car locked, alarm armed

Oops didn't realise that the immobiliser transponder was in the blade section. I managed to unlock the car on the key, and went to start the car... ...it started and then died! There was a yellow warning lamp in the rev counter (car with a key for floor pan and rear wheel). Presumably the...

Only key fob needs recoding; car locked, alarm armed

I was going to but the battery door on the new housing was a different layout to the old one. Had I known I wouldn't have needed to open the working fob, but the old fob was/is a bit shiny so would have preferred a complete new housing. As it is at the moment the key blade part is the new...

Only key fob needs recoding; car locked, alarm armed

Thanks Arrkon! I will give that a go, probably Saturday now as I don't fancy this before work tomorrow... Mal

Only key fob needs recoding; car locked, alarm armed

Been meaning to fix my only key fob for ages as the blade holder broke. So I got a replacement case and straight after work tonight decided to make the blade fit in the very tight new holder. Pulled both cases apart to see if layout the same (they weren't), not thinking that the fob would lose...

    MOT Emmisions Fail - Help!

It passed! Tester advised that it took a long time to "get warmed up" for the emissions to fall - he was testing it for about 30mins and I had been driving it for about 25 mins prior to that. I assumed he was referring to the Cat getting warmed up; coolant was well up to temperature, oil was...

    MOT Emmisions Fail - Help!

Is that the "B5.5" models then? TBH I haven't bothered to check how many plugs I have at the bulkhead, 2nd and 3rd gear WOT - one of the few joys of n/a engined motoring! You forced induction guys don't know what your missing :lmfao:

    MOT Emmisions Fail - Help!

Well the deadline for the MOT retest is tomorrow, so booked it in for first test of the day regardless. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the plugs/oil/filters will improve things a bit. I'll also make sure the climate control is off this time in the hope that less drag on the engine from the...

    MOT Emmisions Fail - Help!

Sadly the car is absolute bog standard, ADR engined slowness! The cat is still in place, as are both lambda sensors. No faults coming from the lambda's, so if the cat was failing, would I not be getting fault codes from the second lambda? I am wondering about the throttle body. As far as...

    MOT Emmisions Fail - Help!

That time of year again, yes MOT failure time - the joys of 1.8 n/a ownership..! This year it failed on o/s CV boot and emmisions. After refitting the driveshaft for the second time (don't ask!), I think I am now sufficiently warm to turn my attention to the emmisions side of things and am...

    Cv Joints

I assume that the car is 1.8T FWD? So from Aragorn's post above you should have the smaller hub, and the joint with the 75mm bearing that fits the small spline shaft. So long as the shaft is still serviceable and it is the outer CV that is clicking, I wouldn't worry about the various inner...

    bonnet sound proofing??

I have bonnet sound proofing on my n/a 1.8, would have assumed that it would be standard across the range? Does it look like it was removed or just never there in the first place?

    Cv Joints

Luckily all I needed to do was replace the CV boot, so I don't know about the cost of CV joints etc. From what I have read here, there seem to be two types of outer shaft -the thicker diameter outer shafts are for S4's and TQS's, whilst the narrower shafts are common to the rest of the models...

    Cv Joints

Depends if the pinch bolt securing the suspension top arms to upright is seized or not... Mine weren't seized and it took me about 30mins to remove driveshaft. If you have access to a vice then dismantling driveshaft will be pretty straightforward, if not you would have to bolt it back on to...

    TQS progress thread, From STD-Scroll-Eliminator.

Thinking outside the box for a moment... I see you did the ICM delete above. Could it be that there has been a deterioration in the condition of the ignition system since the initial mapping? Perhaps the spark is getting blown out at the point where the power is dropping off, hence no...
