This generation of A6 had a 335bhp 4.2-litre V8 sold up until 2006, which was replaced in late 2006 with the 345bhp 4.2 V8 FSI engine that my car has. The 5.2-litre V10 engine was in the S6 sold at the same time (though the previous generation S6 had the older 4.2 V8 engine - I imagine that’s...

No probs. Will have a look. Thanks.
Will look into warranties, too, as that might be another solution - don’t worry about the spec, just make sure there’s sufficient warranty cover to fix any super-pricey issues without four-figure bills...
Yes, writes off all the B8.5s for me. In reality the only thing I think I’d miss is the sound generator and a sensible 160mph speedo compared with the idiotic 200mph one - what’s the point when you can’t legally use two thirds of the speedo?!
Yep, I’m learning just how rare manuals with sport...
Yes, I’m aware, thanks. Very frustrating, but I definitely want a manual, so that’s a cost I’ll have to pay - unless I can find a suitable 2009 manual saloon - the emissions on those are just low enough to be £330 to tax.
Was at one stage considering having a sensible car and something fun - in...
I’ve found one manual with sports diff, another with at least Drive Select, but that’s it. Yep, so many car dealers are thoroughly inept! It’s a wonder they manage to sustain a business.
Have to say, though, the last dealer I dealt with - the place I bought my current Subaru Legacy 3.0 R Spec B...
The logic of getting Audi quotes was to have an idea of what the maximum cost could be - I would imagine going to an Audi specialist for most things. However, I’m not sure of the likelihood of being able to get a replacement sports diff from elsewhere - especially as I understand that Audi...
Thanks Tobe. Doesn’t seem like clutches are a weak point, so that’s the main thing. Sure, it’s tricky gauging the likelihood of any big money issues with any car. It’s always a good sign, though, if some owners at least have come through unscathed!
Might give Audi a call and gauge what they’d...
Thanks for that - really, really useful.
In terms of the gearbox, is there a set typical mileage for needing changing? Have seen one that had the clutch changed at around 80k, but no idea if that was the first or second clutch change.
Good to hear sport diffs are robust. Won’t avoid models...
Hi everyone,
As a serial BMW driver and hopefully soon to-be S4 owner, I thought it was time I made an appearance here. I’m looking to get a B8 S4 Avant manual, although the S5 V8 is still tempting...
I’ve read loads of S4 threads here, on Pistonheads and elsewhere, but most of these seem to...
