Thanks for the reply. I’m hoping it’s not the chains. I can see the pulley wobbling on tickover so I guess it’s shot.

I’m looking for advice from anyone that has done this themselves. I currently have my inlet manifolds off because I’m replacing the PCV. I want to clean the inlet valves up whilst I’m in there. Any advice on equipment, links etc or if anyone has the kit to lend for a fee would be gratefully...

I second this, could you get a video from under the bonnet?

Research your car and symptoms, it’s a common fault. Most likely a mechatronic unit. Ask to have the gearbox reset to basic settings and let it learn how you drive. If this makes no difference then it is probably the mech unit.
