That piece of trim is clipped in and will have been purposely removed as it would be impossible for it to drop down by itself.
The only time the trim would need to be removed is for access to the body control module connectors.
All 8Y's we have worked on have had this trim piece fitted...

You need to get onto a flat straight piece of road and try it - all new cars will be set within a tolerance, personally if you want it spot on then you are best taking it to a place who specialises in alignment - places like center gravity in nuneaton, I have taken a number of my vehicles here...
If you have the multicolour lighting then you have the full ambient lighting package - there should be an option for you to turn the footwell lighting on whilst in motion to give you some more background lighting.

We've this weekend just completed another QQ2 (multicolour upgrade) from QQ5.
Tiny cracks in the leathers sadly something that you will have to live with, we do steering wheel retrims and have done for many many years, as leather is a natural material there will be imperfections and no 2 pieces of hide is the same therefore on some retrims there are more marks on others...
A customer of ours brought his S3 2023 to us for ambient lighting retrofit and had creases in his passenger seat, raised it with the supplying dealer and they replaced the cover on the seat, made it a little bit better but wasn't perfect.
We along with Audi Upgrades have completed 2 x full ambient lighting retrofits to OEM level, one in Cheshire premises and one in Sussex premises - more details to follow.
There are always various options available to suit different budgets, we have a full OEM ambient retrofit tomorrow on an 8Y where the customer has managed to sourced used parts to reduce the cost and we also have an S3 8Y in at the moment having just the LED door strips adding as the customer...
Audi do not offer a 'kit' for this, all parts need to be bought separately from Audi and the wiring harness which there is a lot of additional wiring required we produce ourselves which has been developed over many hours between ourselves and Audi Upgrades.
