Just wondered if it is really worth it?
How easy is it to mess everything up?
Am I right in thinking you need some code info sometimes before you change anything?
Can you data log info while driving I.E. For performance?
Thnks

What would you like to do with it?
Taking logs is easy.

Well it appears there are loads of setting variations to make the car better
data logs for when a prob ie my engine hesitation every now again
mostly info really asxwell

Bret, VCDS (VAG-COM) is a diagnostic tool intended to help people diagnose problems in their ride. Yes, it can modify factory provided options available in the modules of the car. It cannot modify any parameter which is not provided by the OE in their design. Unlike the factory tool, VCDS has the ability to log live measuring values supported by the control modules. With the information from the logs, informed diagnosticians can make better decisions about where a problem lies.

I didn't see a specification as to your ride so I cannot give you an idea of what can be modified. You could spend some time visiting the Ross-Tech web page and in particular exploring the INFO page. On that page is all kinds of info about what you might do on your particular car. There is also a link to our Ross-Tech Wiki, an online encyclopedia we are building with diagnostic procedures and fault code definitions. You could also spend some time looking at the VCDS interactive manual.

If you spend some time with these things, I believe you may have information needed to make an informed decision as to whether or not this tool can do anything for you. Recently I closed a post by saying that if you can avoid going to the dealer for a diagnostic scan 3 times, the tool usually pays for itself.

brett,
its worth every penny mate !!
drop nige, "NHN " a pm, hes the forums on site supplier, cheaper than others too, all genuine, delivered to your door.

It is an S3 about 2 month old now.

Then the Golf VI tweaks found on this platform page may work: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4743553-VCDS-MKVI-MK6-Platform-Handy-Coding-tweaks I used the word "may" because as the thread says, we have reports of some of these not working on 2010 Audi A3.

Remember, the newest models are still being discovered. That is, Ross-Tech does not know all there is to know. It takes people playing and trying things to discover more. We don't do what we do alone. Rather, the enthusiast community, like this one, constantly help us to add to the base of knowledge.

The thread I have shown above is probably the most up to date source I can point you to. Again, I don't know if these are going to work on a UK version of a 2010 Audi S3. The only way to find out is to try something.

If doing some of these mods is "the" deciding factor for you in getting the tool, then perhaps what you should do is ask for someone near you with the tool to come have a play. Then, when you see what can or cannot be done, you again, will have more information to make that informed decision. From what I see on this forum, guys are helping each other all the time. I'd offer but I think the drive to my place would be long, wet and might render the S3 inoperable! ;)

I think Bruce has covered it all & thanks Lea for the heads up, Brett if you did want to go down that road then please PM me for further info.

I'm liking these technology tweaks Bruce, urrmm maybe time to go back to a Golf mate, what I find strange is the Golf has premium features over the supposedly premium branded equal level car, namely the 8P.

The 8P is supposed to be based on the same technology platform as the MKV - the tweaks for the MKV are a little less than available on the MKVI platform. I would expect the next generation A3 will have many of these tweaks available. Maybe the new A1 would be the ticket? We will never see those on this side of the pond but I hope to have one in our stand at Automechanika (Frankfurt) in September. I love coming over to Europe for a week every two years. We get to see things like the Scirocco and other cool technology!
