GEARknob!!! knew that would get ya lookin!:yahoo:

hey guys, i know this probably sounds really stupid :(, but have any of you guys removed the standard a3 gearknob and replace it with an aftermarket 1, coz ive had a look and it seems that the gaiter is attached to the gearknob??? and theres a metal band beneath the gearknob i dont know whether i should take it off?? anway any advice from people who have removed theirs is much appritiated!!
cheers
:blackrs4:

Why do you want to replace with a after market one ?

Audi one looks good so leave it mate,

nuh i aint got an s3 m8, so the standard gearknob looks *****, i've got a cool looking brushed aluminium 1, similar to the s3 style, but only fraction of the price!!:icon_thumright:

I want to replace mine, when i bought the car the top bit was missing. I think you just bust the metal clip then when putting the new one on simply use a zip tie to fasten the leather bit back on instead of the clip. Not got my new one yet so not had a propper look. Let us know.

Thats how I did it on my ex's Lupo

But I used a metal hose clip rather than a cable tie

unclip gator and lift. break metal clip retaining the OEM onto the stalk, lift off. Once off the gator is clipped onto the OEM knob, unclip and remove.

I've fitted a MOMO knob, towars the bottom of it is a grove, the way i've connected the gator is by turning the gator inside out and using a cable tie secured the gator around/in the grove. When you then turn the gator arounf the right way it folds over the tie and is neated hidden inside.

If I'm not making any sense let me know and I'll take some pics on the weekend.

no need to take pics m8 :sadlike:, thanks for the advice, i will attempt it 2moz, and i will take some piccies once ive done it. cheers:thumbsup:

Does anyone know if you can buy the top bits seperately?
