I've decided I am going to get back into 8V S3 ownership. My A5 is a nice relaxing drive but there's several issues for me, the one that stands out is the pedal placement... for context the brake is slightly right of the steering wheel and then the accelerator is further across. This means your right leg is always at an angle and there's no space between the brake pedal and the accelerator...wear some chunky hiking boots and it becomes difficult. Also the standard cockpit lines do not line up with the bulkhead and parcel shelf thing in the mirror so my OCD is constantly triggered (because you are sat in a coupe right near the side they angled the cockpit in front of you in towards the middle instead of angling the centre console towards the driver like in an 8v) and I keep looking at that instead of the road. I did a quote and motorway value it at £23k which is right in the lower end of facelift s3 8v budget so adding some more cash should get me a nice example.

However there's hardly any full spec cars at sub 30k mileages. I want to get one sub 30k because the gearbox and haldex need servicing (and respective filters which audi don't clean when they service them!!!) and so I don't want a car that's been driven on an un-serviced gearbox and filter for 10k+ miles.

I loved my old nano grey one however I bought a colour that attracts too much attention. It was looking back quite a "chav" colour and it attracted chav drivers; fiestas and vauxhalls, sat an inch from my bumper. I'm hoping to buy a black one and hopefully won't have this experience again.

So you end up with a choice of cars that have a pano sunroof but no virtual cockpit, or virtual cockpit but no sunroof, or rarely cars with both but no auto folding mirrors. Etc.

Obviously a pano sunroof can't be retrofitted so common sense says buy one with this and no VC then get VC retrofitted. IIRC "hazzydays" quote £2k for this, parts included, would be cheaper to source myself. From what I've read fitting these to a facelift is generally ok but I also read Audi are stopping retrofitters from doing it. So what' s the status of this in 2022 please? Am I going to miss VC and TMC PRO Tech pack + whatever, having had all the bells and whistles in that regard in my previous car?

Also with regards to OPF/GPF other than the lack of bangs and pops (a good thing imo) is there any other disadvantages? Can you still tune them? Do you have to add adblue or whatever every so often? Do they clog up and need replacing and cause misfires like diesel ones?

Thanks

U can't do VC anymore

I heard it is still possible, you being in the UK hit up DJ Alix/VagCarCoding.co.uk and he can help you out.

Just need someone w ODIS to code your immo and remove CP from the cluster. The request goes up to VW to approve which can take a bit of time. Also need to roll up (can only roll up, not down) mileage on a bench to match rest of the car. So take care when shopping for new VC cluster, must be off car with less miles than yours.

You'll need new steering wheel buttons, upper steering column shroud, and cables and mounting brackets from aliexpress.

I am in the process of installing such a meter and I have the same information as above in the post. Mounting with metal plates, pulling the cables, then coding. VW has 48 hours to decide.

Nice - please let me know if you know of someone who can do the coding remotely as I'm in the US and have struggled to find someone to help.

Thanks

Audi ban cluster if its stolen. You must buy legal cluster

I asked local companies that deal with the installation of additional equipment in vag group cars. I have information that if the couster comes from a verified source, it will not be a problem. See also the video about VC on the Amirish YouTube channel.

This was done to my Passat GTE 2020. The cluster was new, with zero kilometres on it. Needed also ethernet cable and the cluster surround.
For coding Odis was needed to clear the component protection and pairing the keys, and VC tools for the coding.
It was the coder's first time of doing it on the facelift. Took him about 4hrs and all was done. It is easier to do this with a new cluster, because then you can insert correct kilometres. You can't edit them down, only up.
So since Passat B8 is same generation of car as 8V, and "related", it should not be a problem. This is my opinion. Could be wrong also.
The whole cost for this was around 750€ including parts and labor.

If used clusters don't get approved for retrofit by vw anymore, how come prices are still high? Clusters in US are USD 700+

Thanks guys. Prob just going to buy one with it already.

Other questions: are 5 door 8v facelifts still getting nicked as much as they were?

The counter is already in the company that will prepare it for operation. It will take 3 weeks. Now I am waiting for shipments from China. I have information that if you buy metal holders, you don't need to cut out the dashboard.
