Hey guys i have a 2008 TDI and although one of my dipped beam bulbs is gone im not impressed by the light brightness and on both main beam lights too. What halogen bulbs are really good and will improve the brightness from my headlights? I dont want to spend crazy money but it it worth paying more for better bulbs?

H7 ?

You kinda have to prioritise brightness over whiteness .

All performance halogen bulbs are around a warm white ( yellow ) 3700K .

Same problem. The light generated from the halogen units in this generation group of cars does seem poor. In the end, I switched to the latest version of Osram Nightbreakers (H7) which are road legal and readily available at a reasonable price from places like Euro Car parts. I also felt that my lights were aimed very low with the beam centre close to car. I marked the adjusters and moved the adjusters 180 degrees to raise the beams which gave a further improvement. I've since been through two MOTs with no problem. Both gave slight improvements but don't expect miracles.

Many thanks for the advice and recommendations. I see those bulbs on Amazon for £20 a pair, would you say they are worth buying given the improvements?

I noticed the little adjuster dial on the dashboard near the light switch which adjusts the headlight height. I might try tweaking that too.

Im also wondering if polishing the light lens would help too.

Hi thanks for your reply. It sounds like the Osram Night Breakers are a good choice so i will see how i get on with them.

Osram Nightbreakers are not the default bulb anymore .

There's a new King...

Hi mate thanks for the recommendation i had a look at these and they look impressive but a bit move expensive than the Osram. I have ordered 4 of the Osram bulbs as they are £19 a pair on Amazon. cheers for the help.

Both tweaks made things a bit better - but not really "night & day" difference :smile new:. My lights also seemed to be aimed low, I suspect that MOT tests only pick up on beams aimed too high. I think mine were Osram Nightbreakers Laser next generation - or similar. They seem to change the names every year with an alleged new product :smile new:

Many thanks for your reply. The ones i have are Lasers too, they arrived today. One of my main beams are high too so i might need to fiddle with adjusting them too. I will try aiming the dip beam a little higher to see if it helps.

I fitted the 4 bulbs, i agree they are a bit brighter but as you said by not a great deal. When im driving through the streets which are obviously lit, it looks like i dont have my lights on they are very poor. I came from a D3 Audi A8 with xenons so this is shocking ;)

They need adjusting as one is high but that about all that can be done and thanks again.

Not quite in the same place as the E is further back.

Very interesting. Was that with dipped beam or full beam? It seems the standard headlights on non xenon a4's b8 are pretty poor for a 2008 car. Driving around the street i have to keep checking my lights or on as its not obvious.

Hey, did you need to buy a pair of bulbs for each headlight? i.e a H7 for your main beam and another for your dipped beam? Or did you need H1's for the main beam? I'm in a B8.5 myself and can't seem to find anything about exactly how many bulbs are needed

Yeah the same bulb used and 2 are required per headlight. To be honest i dont think the extra cost justified spending £40 as the improvement is only slight.
