Due to covid I've not been using my S5 much. So when my SIM expired a few months back and I lost access to Google maps, I didn't bother getting a new one. I assume this news from Audi that Google Earth support is ending on 1/1/21 means that not only will Google maps not work on my car, but also the online access to satnav destinations which have been sent from another device won't work either. Can anyone confirm?

Pretty sure the sending online destinations hasn’t worked for ages. It will send it, but it can’t calculate a route.

Otherwise, yes your assumptions are correct, no satellite images.

Thanks. I went for a quick drive and the maps look the same as before - I assume that the imagery is still in its memory.

Hi, @Dippy , happy new year. I don’t know how important Google Maps is to you, but one way you could restore it is by installing an Apple Carplay/Android Auto interface. This is the one I have in my car; cheaper alternatives are available from AliExpress. Of course, it might not sit alongside your FIS unit; might at least be worth an enquiry.

Thanks Jeff, I shall remember that option if I decide that the basic maps is now inadequate. But I shan't do anything for the next 6 months or so until I start actually using my car again!

It’s bad news for google earth

In 2012, Google and Audi came together to offer an industry first, Google Earth imagery as part of our navigation systems. The technology that Google uses to deliver Google Earth imagery is constantly evolving and updating. As of December 31st, 2020, Google Earth will no longer be compatible with the hardware in select model year 2018 and older Audi vehicles.

As a result of this change, after 12/31/20, affected vehicles will no longer be able to receive Google Earth images on the navigation screen. Rest assured, all other Audi connect services will remain available as long as there is a compatible service network to support them.
