All new S3

Was never a fan of the saloon S3/RS3 but the new S3 Saloon looks ace from the outside IMO.

A lot of people complaining about the quality inside and other things on the new model and my friend in Germany tells me that the new M135i is a cut above the S3/Golf R and A35 when it comes to fit and finish and the media interface controls.

l have driven the 135iM several times it's really nice inside but l would'nt go as far as saying it's a cut above......as for BMW's interior design it's not got any whaow factor especially with the Dakota leather seats... looks as if it's been skinned off a plastic alligator very much like Mercedes Artico leather,Audi do the same but with a higher standard of finish.......As for the drivers interface......it's all down to getting familiar with whatever brand of German car you buy

The A3/S3/RS3 Saloons are the best looking variants by a country mile

In your opinion mate, I used to think the same but the competition has caught up and even overtaken.

The 45s for example has much more road presence from the front, the exhaust system is nicely integrated.

I prefer the BMW interior balance.

New S3 is growing on me and looks much better with plates on, the interior is marmite but no doubt it’s going to appeal to many.

Yup just my opinion....A class hatch needs facelifted already the A45 exhaust is just lower bumper embellishments....with a slim pipe on either side a few inches behind the bumper....not exactly RS
BMW's dashboard is too safe looking...Mercedes dashboard is the opposite

Does look better in black. I saw my 1st 8Y on the road today, Daytona saloon, the rear arches were very prominent from the side. Pretty sure was an s line with chrome grill surround, which I think looks far better than black pack, non diamond cut alloys do not suit it at all though.

Watched this review this morning @jassyo06 and to be fair it was a very good review. I can't see what the fuss is about with the interior? It looks spot on to me. The only thing I would be concerned about is the glare you get off the screens. It is worse if you have the pan roof optioned. You would get the same issue in any car now that has a so called 'glass cockpit'. Other than that I can't fault it:thumbs up:

To be fair it's not going to drive much, if any different to the current model as I'm sure it's the same engine with a few tweaks - The fact he's prepared to accept it even though it hasn't got want he wants on it is a bit strange

And who specs a panoramic roof at £1100 for resale value - You spec it if you like them not I'll drive this car for 2/3 years with a glass roof that I didn't want just to hold the value at the other end - I doubt it will make that much difference in the end anyway

You Tubers I’ve noticed a number of ‘your average Joe’s’ setting up accounts and basically just filming ‘s*%#e’ with no real content.

If there are 100 x S3 reviews on YouTube, 80 of them have been ripped off from the same source

With different tech hydraulic adaptive suspension and new rear multiplate clutch/diff, I kinda hope that it IS a bit different, as in, better.

What is really going to improve the overall handling is the updated quattro all-wheel drive. The system is now fully variable, Audi says, with a new multi-plate clutch pack positioned just in front of the rear differential. It uses an electric axial-piston pump to activate, with up to 44 bar of pressure on the hydraulic clutch plates available.”

And some marketing techo stuff from Audi

Well hopefully better of course

I sat in an A3 Sportback S-Line the other day and the new tech looked ok and the touchscreen was quick unlike some which have quite a lag on them - The dash was also still a soft material and not hard plastic - not sure about the door cards etc

Generally it looked ok - Air vents around the clocks are still a little strange though

I wont be ordering one with this sort of discount,l optioned mostly everything barring keyless and the DAP which are of no interest to me...

I don't blame you for trying to keep under the 40k rip off tax threshold because I done the same with my 2018 S3 Saloon, although prices were cheaper back then.
I did some checking into prices for your car and the OTR is £39,905, but for the purpose of calculating the £40k threshold the price is £38,980 - you deduct first year VED and first registration fee.
So this means you had £1019 to play with which could have got you the cheaper of the two 19" wheel options and matrix lights for £680, or the more expensive 19" wheel option on its own for £770.
Thanks for that but I have had to change my order to get an earlier car which had been ordered by dealer as their launch car the spec is higher ie £41475 and now blue not red
The car was due at an adjacent dealer who agreed to swop with my dealer who has a black one due
Car is now built and in transit

So l popped into Hamilton Audi this afternoon to see if they had the new A3 Saloon on show...nope...but they had a white Sportback demo which was parked 3 feet away from a Nano grey S3 Saloon.......So a good opportunity to compare the front styling of both cars... and the 8v Saloon tipped it nothing to do with the colours of the cars as l dont like either paints.....big let down with the 8y design as it has no wheel arc bulges this in turn makes it look narrower than the 8v Saloon hence why the front grill looks bigger, the bonnet on the 8y is wider virtually the same width of the car...."Clam Shel" As for the dashboard l think it looks great......huge dislike is the high gloss black plastic that surrounds the gear lever l can see a lot of owners getting this wrapped ....as it will be a dust and finger print magnet plus it looks cheap to be honest....pity Audi dont offer this area surrounding the gear lever an option of some sort carbon finish on higher end models as this would be the icing on the interior cake

I am about to order a new S3 having been in my golf r estate for three years after my previous S3.

has anyone got a picture of the standard alloys in the flesh so to speak rather than the Configurator pictures? I actually quite like the look of them but will happily upgrade to the 19’s.

The colour choice is causing great debate in our house. The mrs has a black A35 and wants me to order a turbo blue S3. I’m boring and fancy going Daytona

Daytona will show the sculpted design to the max,Turbo blue wont being a light flat paint and daytona will be easier to maintain and clean and both will be very popular

Thanks guys. You make valid points. Just extremely similar to the colour of my current R so fancied something different. Also at nearly 40 way too old be driving round in a bright blue car ha ha.

Just need to make my mind up about the alloys. It’s a lease so other than comfort & sound and metallic I’m reluctant to add other options.
