Hi All

Just fitted Audi brand roof racks to my B8 avant, which are a bit like the wide Thule Aero bars with the T bar slot system

They have to fit into designated positions along roof as they have the pins that fit into mating holes in the Audi flush roof bars

This means I try and put my Thule roof box on (which has the older C shape clamps that slide up from beneath) the holes don’t line up..... ridiculous

So I now have to drill extra holes in my roof box at the one end?

The T bar system Adapters won’t help as that still means drilling extra holes

It looks like my Thule roof box is so old that is was only ever meant for narrow square section roof racks.... So doesn’t have enough adjustability (hole increments) for wider modern aero section roof racks

obviously if I could mount one of the Audi roof racks 1cm further back I’d be happy!!
Can I remove the pins?

If you mean adjust the Audi roof bar position, this is a no.

Replace the relevant box & fittings to match the Audi bars, that's your best bet or adjust roofbox fixings as you've eluded too.

Just remember, if it ever comes of, you could be liable, so I would consider replacing for newer.

As you've said, just drill the extra holes in your box in the correct position. Use a piece of metal plate inside your box to strengthen the area between your holes to reinforce.
Why buy another box?
