Anyone tried this mod on an avant and know the compression spring size to use?

I've done it on my A6.
Trial and error with spring sizes and strength but managed to achieve it:

Installed stronger and slightly longer gas struts from Q7 with these springs.
Worked out how much space struts have (springs compressed) and what internal+external diameter spring size have to be.
Springs sourced from berger-tools.co.uk.
Third set of springs made it.

After more than a year, rubber seals around the rail gate started to leak and had to take it all off.
Installed springs recommended to my car so will need to find new springs.

You might ask why I did it myself and not got it already made with struts from eBay?
Well ... love diy, longer struts allowed me t stand straight under the tailgate (tall chap I am) and wanyed support UK business.

@KrisKrk You wouldn't happen to have a parts list for that would you? I like that and want to do it to my A6.

Im case of interest, this seller seems to sell pre-made versions, albeit not super cheap.

Yeah ...
I originally wanted it from him but asked him few simple technical questions on the specs of struts and didn't bothered to reply.
Don't get me wrong, as he's struts with springs look good but not sure how strong they were.
Either it will make your tailgate flying out open or it will barely lift it up.

I was playing about with parts so I knew how it will perform

Great mod, how easy are the springs able to go onto the struts?

As far as I can see the struts just pop off after removing the clip and the springs just slide on. Most people seem to secure the spring at the end with a cable tie or something to stop it sliding up and down.

I measured my struts in diameter to be sure they fit. Luckily, they were tight on the end so I filed them a bit and they fit on the metal attachment bit.
That way springs didn't bounce up and down

Just did mine- ordered the springs direct-a massive £3 something, Unscrewed the ends and slipped them on- literally a 5 minute job. I did wrap some tape around one end to stop it bouncing around, but I'll sort a fix for that during the week.

Can you link the springs you bought please? Do they work ok?

Isn't it from Bergertools.co.uk?
They postage is more than the items. Lol.
I managed to get it right after 3-4 attempts

That is quite a force to pop it up but work perfect
Guess your tailgate is lighter than on my 2010 A6.
