Fuel gauge

Hi.I have Audi a6 c7 2.0 2011 diesel.
I wonder if anyone had similar issue.My fuel gauge stoped working ( it was playing for some time).I lifted the rear seats and moved cables and connectors but it didn't help. My mechanic said it's gonna be £70 or around £400 depend which sender is faulty( or something like that). Anyone had something similar and resolve it? Don't want to pay £400 just for the part.Have a look at fault code.

I had this in my s3. I got the level sensor out of the tank and cleaned the contacts up. Worked a treat after that.

Access was under the rear seat i ran the tank right down before I did it
 
Can I do it with half tank? Did you take out whole unit?
 
From what I remember it was a cow to get out . Very tight the lower the fuel the less you have to fish about and the more you can see.

Might not be the same issue. Mine might have been intermittent rather than no reading but its worth a look
 
I will try at weekend .Don't fancy pay £400 + for it.
 
I wouldn’t recommend opening up the tank with half a tank of diesel. While not flammable, it still generates a lot of fumes. Your car will stink of diesel..... :bye:
 
Stick a fan in the car to blow the fumes out, it will smell for a while even if you have an almost empty tank.

Here are the fuel senders, they are £97 each.
4G0919673B Right Lower
4G0919673C Left upper

The £400 option is the pump, housing and the right lower sender as a single unit, but you can just change the senders on there own.
 
Sometimes the wires that are attached tot he sender unit break at the solder joint so its worth checking that as well before you replace the full unit.

How would I know which one to change?
Is it split tank .Sorry but I know nothing about cars.

So I would need to take the whole think out to check that? Because I lifted the seats and looked at it and moved some cables but it didn't help.
 
yes the unit needs to come out to check the cables inside. they are small cables connecting the connector to the sender coil
 
Unplug one of the senders and see if the error message changes for sender 2, or if you get a message about sender 1.
 
Ok I will try to take it out and will see what happens.Don't know how easy is that.
 
You don't need to remove the senders, there is a connection on the top of the fuel tank for each sender, just unplug one of them.
