Hi, first time posting so forgive any silly mistakes! Got my a3 a couple of months ago (first car) and have been slowly getting familiar with it. I've been wondering for a while how to tell if the ESP is on or off, today I found out that there is a light for it in the instrument cluster.

Apparently it's supposed to come on when I start the ignition, and come on if I turn ESP off. It's not doing either. I'm obviously hoping this is just the light and not something more serious with the ESP.

How can I go about checking/fixing the light? And do you guys think it's likely to be that, or is it going to be something more problematic?

Thanks

Either find someone with vcds and do an output test on the clocks to illuminate all the idiot lights. Or remove the clocks and see if someone has blocked that like with bluetac or the like ( that's my guess)

I was going to say, check if anyone has put tape over the light to fool mot or to sell with no fault lights showing.

It's an led so either it's dead or its its been covered up.

Can you wheelspin the car? If you can and you haven't turned the ESP off then you have an ESP fault, and someone has removed/covered the light to sell you a car with a known fault.
If you can't then it's probably a dead bulb.

Led bud, no bulbs.

Sometimes my ESP light comes on and cuts power then switch engine off and on again light still on but power restored then doesn’t come on again it’s weird only happens about once a month

Hi guys, thanks for all the help. I've been to the garage for a service and asked them to plug it in while it's there. Garage says the haldex is broke and the car is only front wheel drive at the moment...so someone's defiantly blanked out that LED to hide the fault at some point. Yay.

I've been given a recommendation for somewhere that will be able to fix it, although price is the prohibiting factor! Any other recommendations for garages that will look at it in Somerset/Bristol (UK) is very welcomed.

Thanks!
