Trying to remove the Propshaft and some of the bolts clash and can’t get the spanner in should I be trying to remove the bolts or the 12 point one that it’s clashing with anyone know what size the 12 point bolt is?

Well engine strip out has come to a halt coronavirus has put a stop to that, with my misses being high risk because of her ms and working as a nurse the hospital has sent her home for 3 months and since I’m still working I Can’t risk bringing it home so I’m at my mums and being self employed I can’t take time off
So I managed to get the engine and crank today and made a start putting that engine together to pass my spare so at least the engine will be built soon , gotta look on the bright side aint ya
One thing I’m not sure on is if the washers are in properly

Tried to do the piston rings and have hit a snag online I have seen I should have .020 1st ring and .022 for 2nd ring which is bigger than standard gap but when I put the ring in the cylinders to check gap it’s bigger than the target gap so my head is pickled

I thought thing would pick up on here since everyone is on lockdown seems very quiet lately on here

Surely the clip from the first pic isn't sitting right

it doesn’t look right does it , I’m going to try it again today see if I can get it sitting better crank needs to come off again any way because looking at the workshop manual the piston rings should be set from the bottom of the cylinder, I thought the cylinder would be the same the bore the full lengths but will give it a try anyway

Well good luck..personally I have no idea bit reading your lots threads teaches me a lot. You have some good stuff going on here still not fully through it all yet though

So today I got all the forged rods fitted, fitted the piston rings but snapped one so have ordered a new set, And I need to pic up some circlips for the wrist pins as they all have one missing, It will be from when they were getting balanced he’s removed them To remove the old rods, not a total waste but I would of liked to have them All fitted today

Nice to see your having some Progress mate..... this forum is getting very quite like you mentioned above. It used to be booming with updates and people generally chatting. Sadly it looks like it’s coming to an end compared to what it used to be like.

It is on its knees I’m determined not to sign up to Facebook but it’s taken over the forums so looks like I might have to bite the bullet

I’m exactly the same, was on Facebook many years ago. Came off it and would rather not have to sign up again if I can help it. Granted it’s changed a lot since when I was on, but still...... this forum has been my bread and butter for information on our cars. A pure community outside of other social media’s.

I know Sod’s law aint it just as it nearly out I get kicked out haha, I might have to see if I can go round one morning and get it out while the little one is still in bed or tell her to keep the curtains closed , it’s only because she won’t understand why I’m there but she can’t see me , hopefully this coronavirus **** calms down soon I’m cracking up at my mums haha

oh lol, its madness ain't it, tho its all for a good reason. my bro sent me a message saying how much he loves his kids, but wants em back at school already ha! mines getting a little bored now, shes 10 so doesn't really get it all, but the others are getting stir crazy, and we have prob a month or so more at least.

Can’t get anything from tps with all this crap, does any know if the wrist pin cir-clips are one time use

I have reused them... you still on std pistons? were you not upgrading to 'forged"?

<tuffty/>

I can crack on tonight then I’m using Standard piston with forged rods.Crank , rods and pistons have been balanced they were up to 6g difference between the pistons apparently,

yeah, you can reuse as long as you haven't ruined them on removal of course...

I'll have a look at your thread over the coming days and catch up...

5 rods fitted, 1 circlip (What a pain fitting them) missing really didn’t want to order ebay ones but tps will only deliver and have to have an account for delivery

Can’t get a clip till the middle of April anyone know where I could get one from a lot quicker
This is holding me up now

Didn’t think of that I thought that the dealerships are closed because of the lock down

@Tj 0785 and @S3AMJ Facebook isnt that good this forum is by far the better place to be. I joined fb thinking the car groups would be good but sadly its more of a **** take when you ask any questions on them. There is some good guys on it not many as more are just silly comments. Any way good to see ur build TJ coming on but that's a bummer having to wait on the clip. Hopefully the parts request on here can come threw for you and you can keep going.

Parts request is closed so looks like il have to wait for one to come from the USA, asked my mate but I think his garage is closed so can’t even get it delivered there , I ordered some easymelt aluminium rods for welding the intake manifold up so might get that done whilst I’m waiting and paint the covers

Just had a look... Part number appears to be N0122731 for the pin clip

Initial research suggests this is the same clip as used in a 1.8t... Which makes sense...

Have a google yourself (7zap is pants on a phone) and check... If it is then drop bill a call/email as I am fairly sure he will have a few laying about

<tuffty/>

Yeah that’s the part number i have been searching all night to find one I will drop him a pm now
cheers

Climbing the walls here, ordered new piston ring for the one that I broke on the 29th Still not here with it being good Friday Aswell if it’s not here Thursday I’m screwed for the week end as I could have the thing back together ,
I’m a bit stuck with which way to go with this project, I have been thinking of going twin scroll or bigger turbo for some time now but I already have the gt3582r and manifold so if I change plans it will slow the build down by god knows how long or I just fit what I’ve got for now and collect more parts and do a turbo/manifold swap next year when all
This **** dies down and a bit of normality resumes,

i know the feeling mate, i have already been out in mine 4 times since i brought it home at dinner and all i wanna do is go for a rip out across the tops.

no fair.

So as I had no hope of AUTODOC delivery before the bank holiday i ordered a new piston ring set off eBay from latvia £9 +20 for next day delivery, gapped and fitted, head on ,

Bottom timing chain is done now I just need to do the “ @<tuffty/> mod” to the chain guide
Have noticed I need some exhaust manifold studs and one exhaust gasket , ordered one but forgot oem is two manifolds of 3
What bolts should I be using for connecting the turbo to the exhaust manifold?

Hard bolts... M10's I suspect... could you not just order a mani with a V-Band?... T3/T4 etc are just a pain...

Ideally you would use inconel bolts

V band would mean ditching the cast manifold and ordering a stainless one would mean a extra 1-1.3k which would slow it down but I’m tempted to a go that way

I am converting my cast mani to vband...

So managed to get this done today, getting the exhaust cut was a pain of a job don’t fancy doing that again any time soon

Managed to get the top half of timing done (I hope correctly) instead of making the holes bigger I just lifted it of the bottom pin, it’s still locked in place weather it will have any ill effect I’m not sure @<tuffty/> what do think?

Also looking at one of these manifolds, with a twin scroll turbo am I better with one or two wastegates as they have both options?

also don’t know why when I upload a photo it turns it sideways never use to

Didn’t try that it should do with it going in the same holes but will nip back later to check and then spin it over see if it all goes

Turbo question!
My turbo is at 63 And the v band twin scroll housings I’ve seen are ar83 or 1.06
Can I swap my turbo guts to one of these housings ?
What effect does the ar have in a turbo anyway?
