So I finally took the plunge and changed the S3 (which I have loved) for an S4, Black Edition, Manhattan Grey on a 67 plate. Matrix, B&O and most other options as it was an ex-demonstrator before the last owner (who I managed to speak to before buying!)

TBH I slightly prefer the looks of the S3, but the way in which the (very slightly slower?) performance is delivered is completely different and the sound of that V6, well ......!!! Return trip from Stockport averaged 39 mpg and I wasn't hanging around (apart from through the many roadworks) - I suspect the daily commute will be somewhat different.

Very pleased with it - just now needs a really good clean and polish after the salty drive home, and then I'll post some pics - annoyingly it might not be this weekend due to family commitments !

Pics as promised - it was actually quite hard to find a black edition saloon )especially with a decent spec) - most Avants seem to be BE by default......

Congratulations on the new toy Dave, have fun, i'm sure you will.

I too have the Black Edition Avant 2018 and they do look so much better, the only thing i changed on mine was the 4 chrome rings on the front and installed Matt Black ones which, in my view, does give the car a more aggressive & evil look, especially since it is a black edition.

Yes - I’d like to change the front and rear to black badges but am a bit nervous about removing the rear one in particular!

That's the reason why i only changed the front Dave, knowing me i will put it on Wonky!! LOL Plus i do believe, my view, leaving the chrome rings at the back still maintains a little bit of Prestige rather than pure stealth.

Finally had time to give the S4 a really good clean etc. No beading, so I reckon it needs a good wax (they applied Gardx free even though I didn’t want it - no obvious damage caused thankfully even under lights)

It’s in fab condition but the only thing is that I’ve notice the fuel cap has an almost “matt” finish almost like its been sprayed by hand !!(& it doesn’t open either - you have to use your finger nail - eek). I’ve queried this with the dealer on E mail but do you guys reckon a detailer could get it to a proper “mirror” finish? See pics....

Cheers folks

Dave

Possibly the flap has been replaced? Certainly looks to my eyes like a spray job on it and the flap should open by pressing it first at the rear...

Yep that’s what I reckon. Pressing on the rear isn’t working but when the flaps open you can push the “plunger” thing up and down ok. I’ll see what Audi say about both issues!

Definitely been repainted and looks like its sitting slightly lower than the body lines. That would explain why it wont open as normal but they can be adjusted.

Thanks - yes, I hadn't noticed the slight misalignment. Didn't realise it was adjustable so I'm hopeful Audi will fix it for me! (would think the paint issue would need the bodyshop though, as my google research suggests it can't be buffed to a shiny finish)

Looks like it hasn't had the lacquer applied mate.

Mine does sit exactly square from new though I'd agree that looks like the flap has been replaced or resprayed. In that case, whatever might have cause this to be performed, may have also damaged the mechanism.
By the way, if the headlamps are on the Google overlay does appear darkened...

Yes indeed - I'll see what Audi have to say. On Google earth I've found that by manually selecting "day" instead of automatic its fine - I usually leave headlamps on auto but I think I'll adjust them as well to "late" (I think it is) as they seem to be on a lot of the time - but then I'm commuting at 6.30am and 6.00pm so its probably cos of that./

I'll post back here when the fuel flap's been looked at by Audi :grinning:

Yes I have mine set to late as well as they do seem to come on too much. Not as much as our fiesta does though...

Cheers Scott! I’m really pleased with it and it was a big decision to spend the money so soon after the S3, but no regrets.
S5 ha ha !! Love the look of the coupe, but only 2 seats in back, hence the S4 decision!!! Planning on keeping this until HMGov bans petrol cars :racer:

Well good news that a new fuel filler flap (the "spring element" in the flap itself isnt working - or something like that) fitted and painted is £200 and Stockport Audi have agreed to cover the cost in full........ booked in for a couple of weeks time.

My flap seemed to break in the same way I just sprayed wd40 on the mechanism and worked it in and out a few times (ooh I say). Seems to have fixed it though.
