What have you done to your Audi A4 B7 today?

And another reason why you need a Quattro Alex.:icon thumright:

If it had been Friday just passed i'd have blamed it on the date, but since it's not Alex only one person to blame......sorry to hear it all the same Alex.
Best check other bits aswell just in case , How are your CV joints aswell, they normally don't like heavy duty wheelspins.
Anyway, slap wrist's and we'll forget it ever happened.

Tbh ive done a few accidental, enthusiastic junction departures in it and ive got to say its the wortst car ive ever driven for the horrendous feeling it transfers into the cabin. Its certainly not something i do on purpose!

The cv joints are okay i think, no clicking on full lock at least and thats a usual tell tale sign of worn cv joints.

Looks like a flexi repair section will do for now, just hope i can get one before Christmas!

Well a small bit of better luck, inspected the pipe, seems to have fractured at the joint under the car that joins the intermediate pipe to the back box area, looks like an early morning trip into work tomorrow to break out the mig!

Think I’m having issues with my thermostat this morning. Think it may be stuck shut. Looks like pressure built up and blew coolant out from the CTS ***

It's alive and kicking

I had my eye on a set of them for a while. If it doesn’t work out and you need to find them a new home let me know. I’ll be pretty interested!!

So looking at the bills.

Dont buy a cheap car, it costs you in the end.....
Had the car since maybe like May and its had 2.2k spent on it.
Hopefully, now it wants for NOTHING!

If you had asked at the start before buying a cheap A4 you could have saved a lot of time and money, still done now but your just at the tip of a very big iceberg.
We've all been there and still are.

Nothing not new on it now. Should be good for at least 5 years.

List of parts since I've owned it:

All new suspension
New reconditioned engine
New starter
New oil cooler
New Clutch and flywheel
New boost pipes and water hoses
New exhaust system
New Cambelt kit and water pump
All new engine mounts

Just to name a few

Hopefully it's all good now buddy.

That's why I think the threads gushing over what great cars these are should always have an asterisk at the end. They're old, premium cars with a lot of tech and parts that can be expensive if you need to use a garage. You should always buy the best, most well looked after example you can afford when making the initial purchase.

I wish I took my own advice, but I enjoy a challenge, haha.

They are no different to any other used car of a similar age really, they will suffer from wear and tear and age related issues . On a forum within a specific chassis group you will allways hear the bad points so its only fair to give the old buses some positive feedback .
The risk is the same wether its a one owner low milage imac car to a tatty unloved example which I can vouch for from personal experience , its just that cheap examples are cheap for a reason but that's not to say they are any less worth having.
Buy cheap and spend a few pounds to get a nice car, or in my case spend a lot on a nice example and then get shed loads of major issues, still have it now so it must be worth owning.

I spent £1400 on mine. The immediately spent £1700 sorting stuff on it to actually make it roadworthy. Subsequently have spent at least £1000. It's definitely not actually worth it, but I do like the car.

I see your point but can't entirely agree. I think the B7 had a lot of new-ish tech for it's time that has since been improved upon. HPFP, PCV system, front control arm design, etc, that could all lead to bigger than average bills.

You guys have it easy, I live in a country where the top cars are Korean and US salvage imports. For the price of owning a 2007 Audi I could have easily bought a 2014 Korean car. You're considered blessed because of the high maintenance costs and unreal gas prices and you all know the 2.0t isnt the most fuel efficient car out there.
Imagine having 1 of 5 B7 2.0t in the whole country and 1 of only 3 American imported, imagine how hard it is to find used parts. Now buying parts online is another story, customs are so high the Government makes more money from the car then the manufacturing country! But all that goes away when you take it for a spin and remember how nice it is to drive an Audi!

If you saw the problem list for my old bus in the first year you would be amazed what had to be done.
I bought it in june 2014 as a one owner car with 29k miles from west London audi, cost me £12,500.00 which wasn't cheap to be honest and on paper should have been the perfect buy, it then spent more time back in the garage for repairs under warranty than I had it at home, had it not been under audi warranty the bills would have been well over the £12k I paid for it, the hpfp / pcv /control arm etc were none of the failed parts.

Like I say , there is no real ideal purchase with B7's wether its cheap or expensive , all pot luck really.

Replaced the torn in two crank pulley on my BKN 3.0TDI today. Its going again so really pleased but f*** me that is a ****** job. Good mirror definitely needed and the better half did not appreciate me nicking the mirror from the bathroom to fulfill the role. Not helped by previous replacement cross threading two bolts so I had to tap one of them to get it back in. Even with the front released you have about 10cm. Barely enough to get the breaker bar in to sort the tensioner for the belt.

Still she is running :)
