Hi All,

I've owned my FL S3 for about a year and half now and always thinking about getting a Res Delete, but the trouble is I'm struggling to find a insurance company that will cover it. I found some companies but the prices are stupid when you told them you got a Res Delete.

I'm 40 with full NCB and I'm pay about £420 a year for my insurance.

Just wondering what you guys are paying with your Res Delete mod or if you even told your insurance.

Think AXA will cover it, pretty sure they allow stainless steel exhaust modifications, my currently insurance company Aviva I believe also cover modifications if you speak to them.

What a farce UK insurance companies are ....that mod does nothing to performance. It is as you may know an Audi factory manufactured part that can be installed with no issues to the 4 year factory warranty in North America.
If I lived in the UK I would not inform my insurance company of that mod, as it does nothing, than increase exhaust tone and that is no worse than putting mud flaps on your car.

I am with admiral, when I told my insurance about the Res delete on the S3 there was no price change as there was no performance increase.

Same has happened with my S5. I'm surprised you're being charged.

I can see where you're coming from but you're then giving the insurance company grounds to void your policy as you didn't declare modifications to your car.

Adrian Flux all the way, they don't charge for non tune performance mods, plus my policy quote was less than my previous insurer with no mods.

+1 for Adrian flux. I'm on stage 2 with a lot of modifications and only £67 more than my original renewal. Great company to deal with.

As above, Adrian Flux don't charge any extra unless it increases bhp.

Cannot complain! Plus I have FlexDrive with them too so I can drive others cars fully comp.

Adrian Flux seems to get a lot of recommendations but doesn’t seem to cater very well for younger drivers, I’m 24 with 6years ncb and they quoted over £2000 when I’d been quoted £600 - £800 elsewhere.

Just tried Adrian Flux, quoted me extra £500 more on top what I’m paying now

Keep telling my nephew this, but does he listen?!?!? He's almost 24 and puts all sorts of 5h1te on his car :D The latest being a vxr rear bumper and a twin pipe exhaust on his 1.4  He did the same with his last one, then when it was rolled he soon got down to the yard taking things off before they came out to look at it!!! Very lucky....has he learned his lesson? probably not!

Been with Adrian Flux for a few years now on multiple cars (modified policy) and only ever been slightly more than a bog standard insurance quote. I am 23 with 5 or 6 years no claims on PFL S3 Saloon and paid £940 this year, last year was £1300. Was Approx £750 the year before on an A3 Black Edition (8p).

All the quotes I'm been getting seem to be around the £900 mark. Just don't think its worth the extra £500 per year for a Res Delete.

Definitely not worth it in that case, although I've found the more you add the cheaper it is. Maybe because it offers you up to more/different underwriters. One modification difference has definitely had that affect for me in the past (think it was a set of genuine number plate LEDs).

Each to their own but I’ve never understood why people spend, sometimes quite a lot of money modifying run of the mill cars like Corsa’s. I know people that I went to school with that spent £1000’s modifying old golf’s and polo’s at the same time as upping their insurance premiums, they’d be constantly breaking down and required big repairs.

I could never understand why they didn’t just save up and get a nicer car that you could do a few tasteful mods to rather than just put a massive sub in the boot and lower it to within an inch of its life :tearsofjoy:

Oh really that’s not good to hear, I got a different answer when I spoke to an advisor over the weekend as I’m looking to switch to them when my insurance renews in Nov...

Told him all that but he just doesn't listen! I even found some nice looking reliable cheap to insure cars for him and told him to make do for a couple of years to get his insurance down, he just kept saying "Don't like it", "It's not cool", ''It's a girls car", so I gave up and let him get on with it :)

However, after past events I thought he would have taken some note by now...he currently pays £2,500 for his insurance at 23 on a £7k Corsa :wtf:
Reasons: I told him a long time back that he drives too close to the car in front, he laughed it off, a few months later he ran up the back of someone (1 claim). I also told him that he drives too fast, again he laughed it off, he's now got 6 points for speeding! Earlier this year I told him that his girlfriend was bad news, weeks later whilst she was in the passenger seat having an argument with him at 60 mph she decide to yank the steering wheel left, they left the road, hit a tree and rolled twice (2 claims) and no car:

Fair do's . Better looking than a 'bog' standard Corsa.

Ok so putting a different OEM Audi wheel on your car is a mod and therefore your insurance is null and void, if the insurance company is not notified..that is ********. That also goes for mud flaps, a different grill, window wind deflectors etc. ??? None of those are performance enhancers. If the car gets damaged the insurance company only puts bog standard OEM parts not mods...that would be fair to me, unless the insurance company was notified of mods

I did an online quote with Aviva, all they wanted to know is what the modification was and I selected "exhaust modification". No more questions asked.

How did you tell them about the mod?

Did the initial quote online and then rang them up to confirm, advisor said as long as it was stainless steel it would be fine. Did go away and check with someone though.

I always get £2000+ with Aviva and I’m 35 with 10 years NCD.
I actually haven’t declared my res delete (and sub retrofit etc) but thinking of doing so

That is basically what I said to the advisor and what she said to me "as long as it a stainless steel one it would be, fine" I told her that the mod would be stainless steel and told her what it was called. She put me on Hold to double check and came back and said it would not be covered.

Worrying that you get such conflicting advice, I’d definitely want it in writing if I took a policy out to be on the safe side.

I've emailed my insurer to ask for a 'quote' only to add my 'mods' on (nothing enhances performance), let's see what they come back with (Admiral)

BTW - they even had winter tyres on the list of mods! (which I ticked as I've just had some put on), ridiculous isn't it!

I'm with admiral. Had no charge when I told them about my res delete on the S3, as well as a similar mod on my S5. Didn't even get charged an admin fee! Which surprised me.

I'm hoping for the same, declared everything at once though (CF mirror caps and internal inlays, retrofit Audi Sound System and res delete) so maybe they'll charge something. As I said, no performance increases but perhaps more theft attractive...

OK, just got an email back to say it would cost £19.50 to make the changes, which is just their admin fee, so no change in the premium. I've emailed them to accept so I can sleep better at night lol

Hi.
If you wanted to PM me your details I'd be happy to take another look at the quotation to see if there is anything else we can do.
Regards,
Dan.
