So after selling my E46 M3 I was searching through all the usual locations for my next car. I had pretty much decided it was going to be a 3.0 TFSI in either a S4 or S5. This quickly became refined to S4 as the S5 only has 2 rear seats. Now it was between an Avant and the standard. I was really struggling to find an Avant in my price range with the following requirements:

Heated seats
Half leather and alcantara interior
Low miles
Complete Audi history
B&O sound system
Front and rear parking sensors
Low number of owners
Flat bottom steering wheel
Black optic pack

Nice to haves:
Sport diff
Audi Dynamic Drive
Tech pack

What made the search even more awkward was that I could only pay £11,000 by direct debit. The rest would have to go on a credit card. Finally, after numerous phone calls and hours searching I found a strong candidate. I rang up and paid a refundable holding deposit, and today I took the below for a test drive...

The colour is Glacier white and in my opinion looks absolutely stunning. It shows the details of the car and looks great in person. The black optics at first was not a requirement, but seeing it in person I knew I had to have it. Drove it home and the initial reaction is that I absolutely love it. The gear changes are crisp and it makes a lovely noise on upshifts and an even better noise on downshifts. It has an aftermarket exhaust fitted which does drone ever so slightly, however, the sound insulation is decent and its not too noticeable.

As you can imagine it feels alot more modern and the interior is very refined. Flat bottom steering wheel takes a little getting used to, however, I wouldn't have one without. The pickup is fantastic and so far I have not managed to make it lose traction. It doesn't 'fee' as fast as the M3, however, on paper it is every bit as quick and off the line it is mental.

So, plans. I'm not going to lie, I am going to aim to get as much of the credit card paid off first and then will start looking into the following:

Carbon rear diffuser
Boot duck tail spoiler
Air intake
Remap

So the required first fill pic:

So with dry, but cold, weather I though I'd get my dashcam in as I had a close call the other day in a petrol station. Was relatively straightforward, things were slightly stiff, which just highlights the build quality I guess.

Going to order a 13mm nut to bolt the earth wire down, however, for now I have lodged it under the silver nut.

Popped the bonnet and had a little look around. I like trying to DIY certain things on my cars, however, I do find the amount that you have to remove to do most things on this motor a little daunting. I'm sure once I do it the first time I'll be more confident. Lets just hope nothings needs doing for a long while haha:

Woke up with a bit more snow today, so super excited, jumped in and drove to work fully expecting a much quieter car park. It was, so had a little play, nothing too crazy, and ended up going round the car park 4 times lol. Managed to get some nice pics though :D

Rather annoying creak/rattle from the door card, but that can wait until the weather improves.

So started the morning by having a pair of Michelin Pilot Sport 4's fitted to the front. Dealership told me there was a cut in a tyre and that the cords were showing. The cut was tiny so it feels like they exaggerated that, however, with better weather approaching and a road trip planned for the end of the year a new set of rubber can't be a bad thing. Initial thoughts on these tyres...amazing. The grip was great before, now, its even better.

Next steps, probably get the side strips along the sills wrapped in gloss black followed by having the steering wheel redone in alcantara. Will then save for a remap [evilsmile]

Spent a couple of evenings going through DIYs on Audi Enthusiast and started pricing up everything for the illuminated interior door handles. And then noticed this:

IMG_20190518_232846.jpg

What a result lol. Also, may highlight that perhaps not the best mod seeing as though I didn't realise I had it :S

Weather was decent so removed the air filter to start getting accustomed to the engine bay as I've never had an Audi before but do enjoy doing little jobs my self, it was rather dirty so will be replacing the air filter. Left the lid off slightly and blipped the engine a little, supercharger whine was obviously a lot more pronounced, not sure if I like it as much as I thought I would though.

So need to order a replacement, anybody have a part number?

Took a quick pic as I had space on both sides in a car park:

So I finally went on my road trip to Scotland and 1500 miles or so later I am back at work. Must admit, I really am missing the natural beauty of Scotland and I did fall in love with the place. I went to Inverness, the largest city of the Scottish Highlands although I stayed just outside of Inverness as I wanted to get away from the hustle.

Just look at this road, the only thing that lets it down is my Mrs ability to take a photo lol:

IMG_20190810_124524.jpg

Eventually, even though I was quite tired from the drive, I had to stop in to a layby and just take it all in:

Then carried on making my way to an Airbnb that we had booked, which was a stunning property with a great driveway, so it would have been rude not to take some pics:

Drove up to Dunrobin Castle which was a lovely drive and a stunning castle:

I then drove to Falls of Foyers and had a little too much fun and ended up on some ramps:

IMG_20190813_170611.jpg

Nothing too bad, although it made a horrendous noise, 15 mins later I was away again:

IMG_20190816_060655.jpg

A quick pic before leaving:

IMG_20190816_055830.jpg

The car was filthy by the end of the first day, nevermind the end of the week:

IMG_20190819_111721.jpg

IMG_20190812_111129.jpg

And a random last shot:

IMG_20190812_153741.jpg

Fuel
This was nothing short of amazing. I did 1,500 miles and the total fuel bill came to £347. Considering the type of car and the fun I was having on the A roads, I am properly pleased with that. Ofcourse, I could have done better, but thats not what this road trip was about.

IMG_20190811_091812.jpg

I must admit, the number of speed cameras and average speed cameras really did surprise me, however, I guess I should be grateful as it probably did wonders for my MPG lol.

All in all, great trip and I can't wait to visit Scotland again :)

I do now need to top up my engine oil so that has been ordered and I have finally got round to ordering a new OEM filter that should arrive today.

After umming and ahhing I decided to stick with the OE air filter. So over the bank holiday I managed to find time to swap it out. Does anyone else struggle to align the airbox lid afterwards? Takes me ages to align and get it to seat properly, I must be doing something wrong:

Welcome to ASN @theworkerb and a cracking car you got for yourself mate .

Looking at the engine it appears to be a CREC engine (May64 onwards) so, another well done you mate.

And with an S4 and that too a Glacier White you've made an absolutely perfect choice. S4 is more of a perfect size 10 compared to an S5 , which is more like

Hahaha. Thank you and yes you are correct, 64 plate with a CREC engine.

Thanks and yeah haha that was a d'oh moment. It was OK though it was more embarrassing than it was expensive (£6 repair) so it wasn't too bad

"Does anyone else struggle to align the airbox lid afterwards?"

Yes, took me a while too. The trick is to align a protruding strip of plastic at the bottom of the removable filter housing with a corresponding gap in the lower part of the cold air box. Once this is lined up it all pushes into place more easily.

The replacement Mann filter I got has some foam around the paper part of the filter which I guess will stop debris getting stuck in the paper folds.

By the way: nice car, nice write up and some great pictures.

Yeah its strange, I struggle then somehow it just fits and its like "well that was easy". And then the exact thing happens the next time lol.

Thanks for the kind words.

So the time has come and I have decided that I want an *63 AMG next. Will be putting my car up for sale fairly soon, if you know anyone who is interested, please show them this build thread. Will get a link to the ad in the classified section as soon as I have an ad out. Thanks for everything guys. It's been short and sweet :)

And its sold. Not gone far, my parents bought it. Never know, may own it again one day haha. Hunt for the new car begins, hoping to get a beast

Its been a pleasure guys. Here is the new beast.

I have only done 200ish miles but so far, I am over the moon with it.

Because of the time of year etc I've not managed to get any great pictures so these will have to do for now:
