There seems to be a lot of articles online about the issues with the CVT gearbox. All the stuff I can find is mainly in the states and all dated from about 10 years ago.

My 2004 1.8t Avant CVT is starting to worry me. When I pull up after driving the car I can smell burning. Usually when I reverse into a parking space or something. And when I’m travelling at roughly 60 miles an hour I get vibration through the steering wheel. It still drives smoothly around town and the gear changes are very smooth. Occasionally when I slow to a stop the revs will dip lower as if it’s going to stall but then it rises again.

Should I take it to my local Audi garage and get them to look at it? Does it just need a fluid change?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Vibration at 60mph get your wheels balanced.
Find a good independant VW/Audi specialist for an ATF fluid & filter change, & cross your fingers.

Might as well jump in here with my first post!
Just picked up my first Audi this week
It's a 2004 A4 Avant Sport with CVT (250k miles)
The only thing I noticed when I bought it was the car seems to vibrate as I accelerate. I still went ahead and bought it anyway, as it wasn't big money
I have had 5 Passats in a row before this, and from memory, I had a similar issue with a Passat before and it was the inner CV joint
Just wondering is this a common issue and "hoping" that is the problem with this car also, and not the CVT drive!

By the way, mine is not speed related, it's purely under acceleration, and seems to be less noticable once I am cruising
