Hi all.

Has anyone done this or heard of it done successfully?

I think my clutch is on its road out and I plan to have the car remapped soon so I might as well upgrade it, but don't want to spend a small fortune.

I've done some research and I believe a standard RS4 kit without dmf will fit, but would like to know if anyone else has done this successfully??.

I checked part numbers and found the friction plate and release bearing are the same, pressure plate part numbers aren't, but Im thinking that's because it will be stronger??

Any advice and thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Might be worth checking out 034 motorsport, they do an adapter plate I think.

Cheers bud.

Had a look but can't see an adapter.

Have seen a few smf upgrade kits, and 3piece kits. The ECS RA4 conversion kit looks good but it's the best part of £900, to be fair though I think thats a good price for what you get, just don't have £900 sitting right now. Im just back from holiday and have my son's birthday coming up soon too.

The RTS twin friction SMF conversation kit also looks good and coming in at £740 is a bit better, but not sure of the quality.

Noticed the part number for the ECS RA4 kit is the same for RS4 and 2.0t so would really like to know if a standard RS4 3 piece kit would fit into my flywheel as I reckon a standard RS4 kit would be a good budget upgrade that should suffice for a stage1 and not destroy what I otherwise believe to be a good dmf. No shudder or abnormal noise when pulling away.

Also keen to hear from people on stock clutches with stage 1. See if there really is a need to upgrade. The car doesn't get thrashed (much) lol, and I'm not one for drag starts.

I'm not too sure as I haven't done it, but I'm looking to go straight to stage 2 so I'll be keeping an eye out, a b7 rs4 is about 344bhp so will be plenty for a stage 1 tfsi. Are you quattro? If so I reckon you would def need upgrade as the clutch would take a battering. It takes a lot of torque to spin up 4 wheels.

If your only going stage 1 how come your thinking of putting an rs4 clutch in? Seems a bit pointless to me unless I'm missing something with the quattro, are they particularly bad on the clutch? If they are just go for a stage 1 or stage 2 clutch probably half the price as well.

B7 RS4 is 414hp metalsmurf...big boy numbers lol

I seen a b7 rs4 the other day he looked over at me in mine then revved his engine....i felt his rs4 was the lion of the streets and my little 2.0t fsi was the cub that hasn't even got hairs on his balls yet lol

@Metalsmurf.
Im only 2wd but been told that a standard clutch won't last long with stage 1, and I would like to try and make stage 2 at some point. If things stop breaking that is.... And to add to things it's literally just blown a power steering hose or pipe today while I was out as well.... The joys...

@ Ricky burrows. I don't want to pay fortunes unnecesarily, thats why I'm trying to find out if the standard RS4 clutch would fit. (Budget upgrade) as can get a standard 3 piece LUK RS4 kit for £177 Inc vat which has to be better than a stock 2.0tfsi kit.

So far today I have gone round all local factors to see if any had one of each on the shelf, but I only managed to find one place that had the RS4 kit on the shelf so I've taken a load of dimensions from it and counted the teeth etc. The factors all said they wont fit but I think that's just based on a part numbers and not physically looking at the things so I'd like to see for myself or hear from someone who has done it or at least tried it.

My gut feeling is, that the part numbers are only different for the two kits because the RS4 no doubt uses a stronger pressure plate, however I am aware that I may completely wrong lol :laughing:

It is definitely worth doing a little homework mate, good luck with everything

Thanks bud.

I think it's worth finding out as well, not just for me but for all other tfsi owners looking for a budget clutch upgrade.

Was looking at Sachs Xtend kits online there. Part numbers are one digit different. Both are 240mm diameter with 23 teeth and pressure plates physically look the same, what's even better is that the tfsi one is £237quid and the RS4 one is £186.

Tempted to order both just to find out lol.

My thoughts exactly :chuncky:

Will update the thread with any other findings and how I get on.

Would be great if there was someone on here thats done it and could say categoricaly yay or nay though.

What I think I'll do is strip mine out and compare it to the RS4 one I looked at today.

There is another answer , all you 2wd chaps need to go quattro instead.

Would love to Rob, but that's just a tad more of a stretch than I'm prepared for lol.

I really should have thought about quattro before buying the car. Maybe if I hadn't put so much effort into it so far I might have sold it and bought one, but the way things are going you never know......it might get a gallon of petrol on the back seat then along comes a quattro :tearsofjoy:

Right folks.

So it turns out the p.s fluid leak is from my steering rack, and seeing as the clutch is still useable at present and the rack isnt I think the sensible approach for me right now is to deal with the rack first before going any further with the clutch scenario.

To be continued........
