My son's car was in for cambelt and water pump at Aberdeen Audi yesterday. He was firstly quoted the incorrect price then got a phone call from Audi at the end of the day to say that they couldn't get his car to start so they would need to keep it for another day. Now waiting on outcome!

Bit of a pain I know, but at least they gave him some wheels
As long as they properly find and fix the issue

What do you think of the Q2 was considering getting the wife one

To be fair, it feels just like a raised A3. Easier to get in and out of. But that might just be my age !!

It's a 35 TFSI DSG. Feels gutsy enough, and as a `Wifes` car, I'd say it was very good. Not a fan of the DSG box mind. Tried liking it, but it's just sh**e. It also has a very slight juddering / kangarooing effect when driving off from cold. Only 20-30 seconds or so, but noticeable.

Isn't the VW T-Roc the same car? I think the T-Roc looks better from the outside. Never seen the interior though.

Might go and have a look at one this weekend . It wouldn't surprise me if the T-Roc was basically the same car i'll have a look at them to :icon thumright:

Had to call garage 3 times today as no one was updating us. Car still not fixed. They have replaced the cam belt tensioner but that hasn't solved the problem, left with courtesy car over the weekend.

Sounds like a good result - your son gets to enjoy, and put miles on, a nice courtesy car over the weekend. Sure not returning calls is poor but at least they appear to be determined to resolve the problem rather than rushing to hand back a car and potentially leaving your son with the hassle of having to take it back again?

It is annoying when they don't call back. But you've got to feel a bit sorry for the customer service person. They are very busy, and probably don't get told everything that's going on with the car until they get up and ask (when you call) or when the mechanic has finished.

Annoying not having your own car, but at least he has one. I've been without my S3 for weeks now. If they hadn't given me a loan car, I'd have been ********.

Out of interest was the first quote too low or too high?

Wouldn't be the first time Audi get their quotes wrong.

Audi. "Sorry sir but the first quote we gave you for a new engine of £13,000 fully installed was wrong"
Me "Phew, I was a bit worried when I heard the price"
Audi "Yeah. Anyway, we've fully worked it out now. It's £18,380"

How can it be that price for an engine!

What is the car worth?

All in a previous thread.

Basically. Costs include, £2500 to find the fault. Plus whatever Audi Germany asked them to do. Cost of a new engine. Shipping costs of the engine. Installation costs of the new engine. £18,380.

Car is probably worth just less than that trade-in. Just more than that private selling.

Luckily Audi are paying most of it.

£2500 to investigate that the car actually needs a new engine? That's typical Audi right there!

You'd think it would be cheaper for them to just give you another car off the forecourt lol.

I was telling a mate about this last night, straight away he said "It would be going missing and a call to GAP would be going in".....I couldn't do that.

Fraud! No wonder insurance costs so much :-o

They quoted £575 on phone and said your car doesn't have a water pump. When he took it in they said oh your car has a water pump so Price will be £725 . Still waiting on outcome, wondering if they've destroyed engine

If the dealership doesn't even know if the car has a water pump or not (without needing to check it first), then that should raise a few warning signs.

Think you need to start speaking to Audi customer services. For all the good that'll do mind.

If they have destroyed the engine that is their issue, you handed the car over in full working order, it's for the dealership to fix now.

There seems to be some misinformation here.

I'm pretty sure that all modern Audi cars with an internal combustion engine will have a water pump because that's what keeps the water moving to cool the engine, and Audi don't produce any air-cooled variants?

The prices being quoted appear to be Audi's fixed price servicing for vehicles over three years and there are two separate services being offered here - the lower price is just to have the cambelt replaced and the second is if you elect to have both the cambelt and water pump replaced at the same time.

I believe that Cambelt changes are recommended at certain points, either after a certain number of miles or after a number of years, whichever comes first and it's considered good practice to stick to those recommendations.

Having the water pump replaced at the same time is not compulsory but is often recommended as it's essentially the same process and as it's quite labour intensive, and therefore expensive, it potentially saves a more expensive bill if the water pump fails before the next cambelt change.

Car hasn't been running right since my son got it back so he took it to dealers yesterday. They've now said that they've reset timing belt and its running fine but they want to do an extended road test so keeping it for another day.

Doesn't fill you with confidence. My local dealer has been trying to fix my handbrake sticking on fault for over 2 years. Still no further forward.

My wife's car is due a timing belt change but definitely thinking of taking it somewhere else after this carry on! It's not the kind of service you would expect from Audi but unfortunately it seems to becoming the norm!

Are they going to check for engine damage?
A timing belt 1 or 2 teeth out can cause all sorts of damage depending on how the head and block is designed. Pistons could be hitting valves if it was off enough.

I don't know? My son is going in tonight and he's going to ask to speak with the service manager to find out what exactly as been done.

"Replaced the tensioner" Why the hell would that prevent the car from starting? "Replaced a camshaft sensor" So clumsey or ham fisted that they broke it in the first place? "Reset the timing belt" It should be practically impossible for a highly trained Audi Master Tech to install a belt with a pulley a tooth out - but it certainly wouldn't run right.
I would be making an appointment to see the service manager to make sure he hadn't "gone home"when I picked the car up. Ask him to provide an explanation why his workshop staff are so incompetent - and I'd expect more then £350 off the bill.

Totally agree. I would be wanting them to provide a written guarantee that no other damage has been done to the car as some might not be apparent at first.
Aberdeen Audi claims to be the biggest Audi dealer in Europe so should know better.

Son has just spoken to service manager at Aberdeen Audi and he said that the timing belt was off 1 or 2 teeth. He said that wouldn't cause any damage to the engine but that my son would have noticed a higher fuel consumption so next time he fills his tank Audi Aberdeen will reimburse him!! What a joke!!!!

After taking a fortune off you for the job they will give you a tank of fuel back. That’s almost insulting you.
If they are that confident that the 1-2 teeth out didn’t do any damage then they should give you some form of guarantee in case the engine goes pop.
I don’t know how these engines are designed but I’ve had cars that 1-2 teeth out could be a disaster and cars that wouldn’t(think they are called non interfering engine).

Have just spoken with service manager and have asked for the paperwork detailing what has been done to the car. He agreed to provide this and has told us to contact him directly if there are any other problems.
