Hi all,

I recently took my car into a highly recommended shop that I wont name to have some nasty stone chips sorted before ceramic coating. They tried the official Audi nardo grey smart repair kit first but the colour was way too dark. Cutting a long story short, when stripping it off it turns out my lacquer was super thin and they inadvertently went right through the paint on a small patch.

The entire bonnet has been resprayed now, however the chap (who thankfully for me is also very fussy and won't let anything out that isn't perfect) isn't particularly happy with the colour matching and is going to strip it off and try again.

I'm not looking for critics on the situation, I am just wanting to see if anyone here has experience with colour matching Nardo Grey on the FL at all and can offer any recommendations? I know sod all when it comes to this sort of stuff... can the paint be bought somewhere? I know that it's very very difficult to get an exact match and it will likely never be the same but any advice would be hugely appreciated.

At the moment it's looking like we'll have to blend with the wings...

Thanks,

Callum

I've no experience with nardo but I feel your pain as I'm having a similar mare at the moment with my SQ5
Some dumb idiot ran into the back of me at a round about at very low speed.
The tailgate had a 6" long dent in the middle and the bumper was scratched.
After initially quoting to repair the two, they had to replace them due to lack of access.
Great you would think but no after painting the whole rear end, it's back in to have the rear quarters blended in. The colour, Florit silver, looked ok'ish in dull conditions but miles off with the sun on it.
The problem is, even the correct colour will have quite a few different shades within that and will still need blending in
I almost wish I'd left it with the dent in as its caused a bigger knock on problem like yourself!

I had a nimbus grey s4 avant a while back and when I bought it from Audi it needed a few bits of paint sorting - they had a nightmare with colour matching and had to get some specialist from Audi on the case to help with a match. Might be worth contacting Audi UK for advice or your dealer if they’re any good that is.

Nardo gray? Have you tried some rattle can primer. Should be a perfect match ;)

I’m not surprised it was thin, it’s missing the top coat.

Surprised nobody jumped in with this sooner, been a while since we’ve had a classic Nardo primer joke ;)

Had car washed today and my bonnet had a good 6 or 7 stone chips. Only a month or two ago I had 2 or 3 at most. Sticks out like a sore thumb! Be tempted to have mine resprayed then some PPF applied. However, at the cost of what I would think would be 1k...unsure.

Glasgow Smart Repair Centre have superb reviews. Defo my first choice
