Evening all. Today I got in my car after work and the inside smelt bad. Can only describe the smell as abit like something gone off or something mouldy. It did go away when driving home. But went back out an hour later and it was there again. Any ideas?? Thanks

+1 for air conditioning issues

Would that cause it to smell without the engine being started though?

I agree mine only smelled when car was running tbf.

You can buy the air conditioning cleaner tins on Ebay cheap enough very easy to use.

Have the kids left half a meal tucked under the back seat?

Dog poo on mat's?
Spilt milk? (This is actually a nightmare)
Only way is to sniff it out, use a torch and fingers to pin point the offending area

Air con issue for me. Weather getting warmer refridgerant sitting in the system, goes a bit stale then smell blows from vents when used?

No no no, not refrigerant, just water that has been collected in with the incoming air and it gets stripped out of the chilled air by virtue of the temperature drop (warm air can hold a higher %age of water than cold air), and that now stale water/moisture has become a breeding ground for nasty bugs, that is what the smell will be.

Yeah sliding off topic . . . . .

Am going for damp carpets even when they feel dry can be drenched underneath best have good root around to identify location of smell.

Thats all I got . . . .
Good luck. . .

Which is another good reason for keeping AC on all year round. I believe it reduces moisture in cabin.

Someone mentioned spilt milk I did that once and it is the worst if not meticulously cleaned up.

Any enemies been in your car lately?
Someone hidden a fish head or a steak under the seat?
Had this happen to a lad I used to work with. They put it under his dash. Took about a week to find it :sos:

all those odour cans do absolutely nothing but disguising the smell for a week or 2..
replace ninterior air filter, aircon filter and have an ozone treatment done! Ozone is the only effective way to actually kill all germs, fungi and other odour bringing stuff.
I have such a machine at home, used it on several cars.. all with great result

Find the source dry it out. Put two open bags of charcoal on the seat. Charcoal absorbs smells hence charcoal filter for extracts.
