Its with a heavy heart i say RIP to my baby, my 2013 2.0tdi S-line in daytona grey written off with only 37,000 miles on the clock.

The politest name to call the driver at fault is nothing short of an absolute idiot. Instead of slowing down to stop at a cross roads / give way junction he simply decided to not even slow down and T-Bone the car as i was driving down a main road. He hadn’t been drinking so can only assume he was either looking at his phone, arguing with Mrs or completely ignorant to rules of the road as he literally didn’t slow down to give way - he drove / cut straight across a main road. The dash cam shows this clearly thanks to the wide angle lense.

The main thing is that my partner wasn’t seriously hurt & that's all i care about. A millisecond earlier and she would of been hit square on the passenger side door. We’ve both hurt our backs, neck & shoulder but cars can be replaced.

The car hit exactly on the rear axle, pushing the whole axle over, snapping & bending various rear suspension & axle components, even the break disc shattered on opposite site which shows the force. Damage to rear 3/4 panel & door. The curtain airbags did their job protecting are heads from pinging off the windows. My partner had a little burn on her arm off her seat airbag deploying but again it did the job it was designed to do protecting her. To be honest due to the force of the impact i’m surprised the damage wasn’t a lot more than it looks from the outside. Although it hit square on wheel & axle side its testament to how solid our cars can be. I’m just thankful once again he didn't hit a millisecond earlier as it could have been a lot more serious if he hit passenger door instead of rear quarter & wheel.

I’ve loved every minute of owning my A3. I’ve looked after and pampered her from day one, doing my own DIY full service every year to keep her in tip top condition and running order. I knew it would be a total loss / write off, thankfully the inspection engineer seen how well it was looked after (it was immaculate inside & out) and gave me top book price so a small positive i guess.

I’ve got rather nice Mercedes C class as a courtesy car at the minute, nice inside with lots of toys but external looks aren't my cup of tea - making me wonder where to venture next once i get my payment through, do i look for another A3 or get something different for a change?...... There’s nothing that really appeals to me at the moment when i had a look around online - think i’m still in disbelief that I've lost my lovely A3!

Main thing is you are both ok! Goes to show the way these cars are built, from the pictures really can't see that much damage which is surprising!

If you like the A3 then no reason not to stick with but definitely plenty of choice out there.

My mate had a similar accident in his BMW M235i where he pulled out and a car just T boned him as they didn't correctly stop. Car was completely written off and scrapped.

Glad to hear there’s no serious injuries.
Modern cars are designed to absorb shock and essentially fall apart to protect the occupants. Once airbags pops it’s pretty much automatically a write off.
My wife had a similar accident a few years back with my beloved golf but it did it’s job and protected her.
Plenty of cars out there. Take your time and find something you will be happy with. Don’t rush into it.

Glad both your injuries are not too serious - could have been a lot worse. Must have been a shock though.

Looks as though the rear chassis frame took the brunt of it and that damage is extensive; the wheel on the other side of the car, and number of airbags deployed tell the story, though the bodywork damage looks less than expected.

As you say, cars can be replaced and it did its job. A3, Golf or new Merc A class seem to be popular.

Hope the injuries heal soon

As others have said, glad to hear you are both ok, if a little mattered and bruised.

Glad you are all ok, I would have wanted to drag him out his car and punch f*#k out of him.
Driving like that could have caused the loss of something so precious. People like that should be banned from driving for life.

Same as others glad all not badly hurt . I assume police will have taken his mobile phone . They can then see if he was texting , etc .
As far as car is concerned try to treat yourself to a step up if you afford it so you give yourself a lift from the incident .

I always thought i would be like that if involved in a non fault accident. To be honest my other half was out giving him a verbal tyraid - i was still sat there stunned for a minute or so sat in the smokey haze! I think i was just so happy that my Fiancee wasnt seriously hurt i didn't feel any anger - i was just stunned and in shock

@Shortyian so sorry about the loss of your car, I know you loved and looked after it so well. The main thing is that you and your fiancée were not badly hurt. Take your time looking for a replacement car. Look after yourselves

You would think so but the Police weren't interested in in pursuing anything - despite how blatantly obvious it was that he showed no regard for rules of the road. My car was blocking the main road so they helped guide traffic until recovery turned up and that was it. They didn't smell anything on his breathe so no further action was taken. They only go along the route of driving without undue care and attention if someone is seriously hurt or killed apparently (or so the PC said to me) . Silly i know, surely steps should be taken as preventive measures to avoid someone being seriously hurt or killed in the future, but apparently not. I guess they are that short on manpower they just done have the time these days. You do feel a massive lack of justice at times these days but what can you do!

I'm with you there - a pick me up is defendant needed - i'm keeping positive best i can, but it does get you down at times.

Similar story my wife was given when she had her accident. If no one was hurt then no charge even though the idiot clearly came out a junction without looking and there was 5 witnesses and cctv that saw the whole thing. Think there are definitive lines that must be crossed before dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention is charged otherwise it’s a sh!t happens and just an accident.
Stay positive, don’t accept the first offer of pay off and keep at the insurance to get the best pay out.
As for the injuries. For us it wasn’t the few hundred quid in personal injuries that we were interested in. It was access to physiotherapist and other specialist that’s was great as the other party admitted blame. So something to look into if you got a crooked neck or sore back etc. It’s not the nicest thing to have an airbag go off in your face so even access to psychologists to help you through your emotional pain etc.

Wow , must vary county to county.
As far as I am aware here in Essex they breathalise both parties and check phones . Worth in future to overplay any injury .
My daughter was ram in the back . She was stationary at a red light . The driver was an undercover policeman who was following someone. He did not get out of his car . In minutes she was surrounded by police . They breathalyser her ! She never got to speak the the driver . She as given a phone number by the traffic Sargent .
They arranged everything to repair the car . However , as she was under 21 a number of insurance companies would not take her on after that . She was totally innocent ..

Someone just sent me this - Scary to think that if the idiot hit me a millisecond earlier this would of been what my car would of looked like. Have to be so thankful that my Mrs to be is ok and that he hit the rear axle instead of square on the doors.

Anyway onward and upward - I've just picked up my 'new' car, a lovely Cosmos Black Mercedes Benz CLA :chuncky:
