when I'm in dynamic in 3rd gear.. if I plant my foot hard between 3 and 4k rpm the car drops to second gear. is this normal?

Think on it this way.....when accelerating through the gears with your foot hard down the car will hold each gear to around the redline.
3000 rpm in 3rd gear should be well short of the redline in 2nd, so yes the car should kick down to 2nd under these circumstances.
What makes you think there is something unusual?

I just never noticed it before. this is my first proper car(upgraded from a Corsa)

thanks

Completely normal, if you floor it in 5th it’ll probable drop down to 3rd even 2nd depending on your speed.

I do winge about my S3 but can’t knock the engine or gear box.
