Can anyone give me a heads up as to what I should be paying for the 38k S Tronic service?

My dealer has quoted me £199 so far

From memory, when someone else posted about the oil service, that is quite competitive...

Changing the drift of this thread slightly, have you got to 38k miles with no problems from the s-tronic? It was my only worry about buying my A4 although I was determined to try automatic and at 20,000 mine has been trouble free - touch wood. I know that cuke2u was unlucky enough to have a problem early on but in spite of all the DSG haters I have not read of many s-tronic problems on this forum.

Mine has been absolutely fine since buying as an ex-demo at 4k; now 3 years later at 39 500.

I paid 225 on the 3.0 TDi.

No problems here with the s tronic (apart from the well known lag) after 46k.

Well that’s good to know. Thanks both. I’m starting to think that maybe the DSG isn’t as bad as is made out in other forums, which shall remain nameless.

Despite my early experience I would say the gearbox is fantastic and wouldn't change it for anything...

I agree. Maybe I shouldn’t participate in such a VAG hating forum and stick to this one!

I'm not sure which forums you are referring to but it's fairly well established now that that the first two versions of the s-tronic gearbox used in the B8 up until early 2013 did have genuine design problems, which is why there was a third version. I think its good now, and they learnt their lessons for the B9 (whatever happened to @cuke2u 's car may be an exception), but it is fair to be critical when many of those early gearboxes did have real problems.

I picked up my avant at 14k miles and it's currently on 33k

So far (touch wood) the box has been trouble free. I know early S Tronic's were made of chocolate and glass and the newer ones are better, but I'm not risking having it go pop out of warranty in 2020 without having it serviced on the button, assuming I still have it by then
