Hi all, quick question. Just had my contact sport 6 tyres changed on my B9 S4. These were factory fitted and now I have Michelin PS4s. Same size, exact speed dimensions etc. The guy from tyres on the drive said that these aren’t R02 so I’m just letting you know. I understand R02 is a marking on the tyre to show it’s an Audi original recommended tyre but he didn’t know what difference it’d make as they’re the exact same size. Anyone else had any issues fitting non Audi original tyres to their S4? And in particular Michelin PS4s. Just want to double check to put my mind at rest.

Cheers

With some original recommended tyres, also own as AO for front wheel drive RO for quattro, it has been posted I this forum that the rim protection can be better..

Thanks for that. I did see that but apart from rim protection I couldn’t see if there were any issues with having Non AO tyres. Perhaps it’s just a marketing thing. I was just a little nervous so thought I’d ask on here.

I have non AO's fitted to the front wheels of my car by a well known tyre fitment company, the rears are original. I don't think you will run foul of any issues..

What are the road noise levels like with the PS4 in comparison to the conti?

I’ve just took it out for a run and honestly I can’t hear too much of a difference. I think I’ll know on Monday when on the motorway on way to work as the B roads are terrible where I live. Tell you what though, the grip is immense. I took it easy for a few miles for them to warm up but took a corner quickly and it was like glue and the steering felt great. The car handles brilliantly anyway but it was even more reassured.

Encouraging to hear about the handling but would appreciate you letting me know your thoughts regarding noise you have had a motorway run. I’m likely to extend my S5 lease but that will mean a full set of tyres so looking at options. I find the contis quite loud!

Yeah I’ll update this post for you in a couple days. I think conti’s are Ok in terms of noise, the S4 is pretty quiet in comfort anyway but I don’t have much to compare to until now.

The tyre companies work with the manufacturers to 'tune' tyre compounds and construction techniques hence the AO designation. The last RSQ3 shared it's tyre size with some of the Jaguar models which were also on Pirelli P-Zeros, the Jag version was allegedly quieter than the AO Audi fitment- and it was in practice too as the RS chewed it's way through 2 sets of the things.

If you have the expense of having a set of tyres fitted - get a proper 4 wheel alignment check done too - you will be utterly amazed by the difference it makes to the handling - new tyres + alignment = different car.:thumbs up:

Thanks for that! But overall, you think they’ll be fine on the car? I have my first service and inspection in two weeks anyway so I’m sure they’ll check the wheels and tyres etc.

Yeah fine - the dealer won't even check beyond pressures and tread depth.
