So, last week, my 2014 manual S3 was stolen - broke into my house, took keys off me. No personal harm done, but still a bit of a shock.

Anyway, rather than dwelling on that - I'm thinking about the future.

Fortunately, I got GAP insurance with the "replace" option. I bought the car 2 years ago, 2nd hand from Audi with 9k miles on the clock (now 20k). it was a glacier white sportback Black edition, privacy glass, B&O, SD card Sat nav, Lumbar, comfort pack, dimming mirrors etc.

I've been looking at the market, and it seems that Manual S3s are now rarer than hens teeth. Indeed, cars of vaguely comparable spec seem to have not changed in price at all - or are higher in price than when I bought mine.

I'm wondering how the "Replace" part of the GAP insurance works? it's nearly impossible to find a manual 2nd hand, low mileage S3 with similar options. Are they going to trawl through the market to find something similar, or are they just going to spec up a new car? Has anyone been through this process?

Cheers

Glad to hear you are ok. Unfortunately the easiest way for these scumbags to get your car is coming in your home and getting the keys.
Happened to a mate and as he said no point fighting, priority get them out the house to keep family safe, everything is insured and it’s not worth it.
Sorry can’t help with the gap insurance stuff.
As i understand it audi don’t make manuals anymore, or 3 doors, so any ones left seems to be snatched up quickly. If the insurance payout is decent enough might be worth thinking about a new one,pre reg, and stump up or finance the difference. Sounds like the spec you need in the fl would be a black edition with tech pack. That will give you most things you had apart from the mirrors.

I haven’t done it but I believe because it’s the replacement vehicle, say you had a rare car and the price to buy was now 5k more expensive to buy, then they’ll give you return to invoice plus that extra 5k. So working on that premise, if you find a similar spec to what you had, even if it’s say 2 years newer, they should cover the difference in cost.

Sorry to hear that your car has been stolen. Just glad nothing else happened.

As for car replacement. Why not just go buy a heap of S*** to replace it with for a while. It's not right that you should have to, buy whoever stole your car, could well assume the first thing you'll do, is go out and buy another S3. Be back in a few weeks for that too.

The way things are these days, it seriously puts me off buying anything decent again. Buy any Audi S or RS model, and it's a target. Same for BMW's / Merc's etc.

I 98% of the time garage mine. Although if they really want it, a Garage is no hurdle for them (if they know it's there) I'd be more nervous if it was an RS3 rather than the S3 sat in there.

Not another.

Sorry to hear that. Pleased there was no harm done to you or your family, and glad you've got GAP.

As always, I hope the retarded, low life cretinous ******* load the car up with 5 of their pond life, oxygen robbing "mates" and drive it at 140mph into a brick wall and then skid into a vat of acid. Scum ********.

Sorry to hear about your car but at least nobody physically injured. It’s a terrible state of affairs that this happens so often.

I have a completely different opinion to the popular one on this subject.
If i ever found myself in that position i can assure you I would fight with all my strength to protect my hard earned possessions. :gun2:
Before anybody says different, I live alone so am entitled to make that choice. :innocent:
Sorry I can't help about your GAP question. I have it with this and my previous car but both were brand new so easy to calculate.

The normal insurance requires adverts with similar specifications, the independent assessor will speak to you first before making a decision.

I suppose it depends on the company you went with and how they word the policy you bought, is it replace to invoice price or replace to a similar age/spec car price? If a car the same as yours can't be found, they may just top up the 'normal' insurance payout amount up to what yours would be worth (from a garage with the same spec) when it was stolen.

Before you agree a settlement price from your 'normal' insurance tell the GAP insurance first and make sure they agree with the price!

Indeed.. think I'd rather just give up my keys over the thought of possibly ending up in hospital. Well, I know I would... its not like its not insured.

There's the whole thing of moral high ground as they are doing wrong, but yeah ... if its 1 vs 3 or something, not sure how the individual is going to hold up!

I’d hand over the keys and hope it ends up in a ball of flames.

it is replace with same spec. so I'll be looking for something with max 20k miles on the clock... I suppose I had better start trawling through audi-approved adverts to get an idea of what might be reasonable...

Sorry to hear about it mate and yeah, they do seem quite rare nowadays.

But, 10k miles in 2 years in an S3? Damn

I've had mine just over 17 months and have done just under 8200 miles.

Just seems so strange to me to be spending so much on such a powerful car and to only drive it so little

I had my previous even more powerful car for 8 months and covered 2800 miles. :innocent:

Quite a few people do quite low mileage for one reason or another. The commute to work is very short so they walk/cycle, they drive a van for work, work from home or whatever.

I've done 10.4k Miles now since mid October when I got mine. My commute is 25 mins (8mile) each way, albeit boring and I might as well drive a 1litre engine considering I'm lucky if I ever even get upto a speed limit but yeh, I do understand your point.. Not sure if I could justify spending so much on a car if it was only used on weekends.

it's mainly airport runs and shopping, and of course holidays etc. Most weeks I'm abroad for work, so often it is just 100 miles a week (airport and back). as for justifying the expense, 750 watts of B&O on the airport run helps alleviate the tedium ;-)
