Do you set your bass and treble to max?

Hi in your sound settings are you suppose to max out your bass and treble? I max them and it sounds way better but my mate said it's bad for the car when you max both? I don't see the problem? I find maxing both the sound is better quality. Just wondering. Appreciate everyone's help :)

Personally I don’t max them, I do turn them up though. I like to have my treble slightly higher than my bass

Definitely not maxed out.
I set mine according to the source and what sounds most realistic.
The problem is it’s dependent on the type of music too so it’s a case of finding the best compromise.

Very subjective to answer....depends on a person's hearing, taste and equipment.
Personally I find that most people turn the bass especially and the treble too high. If you have low quality speakers and amplifier it will sound mediocre at best. I have not heard any car sound system that can touch my home system. A car environment is probably the worst environment to reproduce quality sound. Bass response on most car systems tends itself to a boomy sound when turned up too much, which I do not like.
Quality, read expensive, home audio systems have no treble or bass adjustments period. There are many reasons why it is not easy to have audiophile sound in a car...environment, 12V power supply, speaker enclosures and placement, tiny amplifier components and last but not least the source sound, which is generally compressed, low quality and bad sampling rates on digital sources
On most car systems I emphasise the sound to the the rear speakers not the front and turn the bass up a bit and leave the treble flat for my preference.

FL? PFL? ***? B&O? Do you have MMI Sub control? Either way, bass should not be anywhere near max, sub though, you can turn it way up.. If you have FL with sub (*** or B&O) but no MMI Sub control, the sound will sucked no matter how you tune it... Waiting on you @DJAlix :help:

MMI sub control? What's that? I have the latest MMI system if that what you meant. I have the new facelift model 18 plate. Your message confused me a little lol

Which sound system do you have? If you have Audi Audio System or B&O with subwoofer, there should have been the subwoofer setting in MMI, but somehow, it's missing on lots of FL cars and there's a big fuzz about it on varies forums, coz the sub is basically set to min and no way to turn it up right now...

Not to belabour a point setting the bass to max with high volume will clip most amplifiers as it is the most demanding frequency to the amp and the sound will suck and possibly damage components. Some car amplifiers will limit bass and volume according to the volume/bass settings to avoid clipping.

Are you sure? look at bottom of the rear parcel shelf for a non B&O system for the woofer. B&O is in the spare wheel enclosure. Otherwise, you have the low end Audi system

Rear parcel shelf? What is B&O? Sorry I have no idea what you are talking about. I am not very tech savvy :frown:

B&O is an optional sound system upgrade, there're 3 types of systems, the standard audio, the Audi Sound System with subwoofer, and then the B&O system with subwoofer. You don't have B&O since there's no "sound effect" option in your MMI either, but you could have *** but no MMI subwoofer control, Audi is well aware of the problem, and there's firmware update for B&O out, but not ***...

If you are just listening to the wireless in the background at low volume then it may sound better with bass and treble high, but all you are really doing is subduing the mid range.
You need to crank the B&O to 3/4 volume to appreciate the detail and atmosphere of a recording. I find a couple of notches above flat on bass and treble with the sub at +4 notches works best for me.
But the quality of most piano recordings is disappointing and on the poor side. The sound seems difficult to faithfully reproduce.

Right so basically I have the crappiest version? What the hell lol? I suppose to have the B&0 because I have the advance pack etc. I'm confused right now. Is there a way to 100% confirm I have the ***? About this update, is it free?

Given the subwoofer control issue, the only other way to tell if you have *** is to look for the sub. Saloons have the sub mounted in the rear shelf of the vehicle, with the bottom of the speaker exposed and poking through the bottom of said shelf. 3DR and Sportback vehicles have their subs inside the spare wheel. The sub looks like a round solid plastic box and fits inside the wheel while turned face down.

I believe if you have a “back edition” vehicle the *** was standard in the package, it was for me at the time (first black edition ordered in the UK) but I upgraded to the B&O. If you don’t have a BE vehicle then the *** is a paid extra.

It’s a work in progress. Have tested with one vehicle and could not get the menu control to pop so far.

Quite right, the kind of kit that you can’t find in Curry’s or Argos......thankfully. However, I’ve heard some car audio systems that are incredible, but we are talking high end equipment and not your mass produced B&O or Bose stuff.

I’m not an audiophile but I know what sounds ‘real’.

Oh I see. I'm not quite sure but I do now that I have virtual **** pit and the advance package not sure if that helps or not. I'm kinda sad. So it seems I have the basic stereo :(

Can you send me your reg number in a private message? I can get your factory records and let you know exactly what you have in the vehicle.

Simple answer to that question - whatever sounds best for you - everyone is different.

Did you buy the car new? If so how can you not know what entertainment system you ordered? Just look at the order form. Or check the code numbers in your service book against the brochure.

Hi Lauren,
With Audi you pay, pay, pay for extras and the dealers don't usually load their cars ordered for stock/demonstrators too much otherwise they'd be too expensive when it comes to sell them.
If I remember, your car has the basic sound system. We pointed you towards a Black Edition for sale in Huddersfield that had B&O - but it didn't have the VC.

The advanced tech pack (which gives VC) doesn't give the upgraded sound system, believe that comes under the "Sound&Comfort" pack. Upgraded sound system (B&O) does come with the black edition S3 however.

I have both set to about 3 oclock. If the bass is turned up any more it doesnt really go loud enough (built in limiter) to be able to hear the midrange properly (Standard system)

This is what works for my ears in an S3 Saloon with *** and with the type of music I listen to.
Some tracks would benefit from more or less Bass, some would need more or less Treble so for me this is my best compromise.
If I played more Breakbeat, Electronic, etc I’d use completely different settings.

My tips:

1. Adjust purely by ear and not looking at the dial, don’t be afraid to dial back from centre.

2. Adjust while driving as road noise affects certain frequencies and what works when sitting still doesn’t necessarily work when on the move.

3. Go back and forth between dials as a change to the Sub can affect the Bass and a change to the Bass can affect Mids.

4. Some people think more Bass or Sub is better because it’s more powerful and is felt more but if you go too far it just muddles the rest of the frequencies so for music with real instruments (Not made on a PC ) try to rein it in a bit.

5. High Bit-Rate music on an SD Card sounds miles better than it does on an iPhone/iPod or streaming from Apple Music or Bluetooth.
