I am looking to reduce down monthly costs on my S4 order that is well speced with options. Just wondering with the driving I do which is 90% motorway and dual carriageway, if I will get much benefit from the diff.

I survived 2 winters in the M235i on Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, just :)

No I don’t see the point in the sports diff if it’s all motorway and the standard car gets round a bend no problem. As for snow it’s toffee especially since the s4 has proper fixed 4wd not haldex save your cash.

Most my driving is back roads for context where it would be most useful and I haven’t missed not having it I do enjoy the pano roof everyday.

Sports diff will definitely be a waste of money if your driving style does not create the circumstances were it can function. And certainly that style is near to impossible to achieve on most motorways and dual carriageways. I find it relatively easy to expose the shortcomings in a standard rear diff, but am aware that there are plenty of people who do not. So I think in general you ought to know if you will appreciate a car with an LSD, based on your experience during test drives.

I have a lot of country lanes around me, so looks like I may be glad i got this

Yes, but do not let it fool you into thinking it will dial out the dreaded understeer. Have had a scary moment or two.

Funny you should say that, I've had the same. But only since I put on the Eibach springs... On the OEM springs the thing was planted and would even slightly oversteer with the diff in dynamic and TC in sport.

So with the Eibachs it's a step backwards in terms of handling?

I'd say so, but I wouldn't knock the Eibach product. There's no springs developed by them specifically for the S4 saloon/avant (that I know of) so the ones that we're using are for the closest available variant. I've used Eibach in the past that were actually for the right car and they were spot on! Haha

Agreed, thanks

This was with OEM springs. Have not had the opportunity to revisit the same windy undulating section of road with Eibachs fitted to properly compare. On conversing with US tuner 034 Motorsports, a rear sway bar may appear to be the answer.

A lad at my work has the springs and sway bars on his car but he did them at the same time so can't comment on the difference the sway bar makes after fitting the springs unfortunately.

I'm in the process of getting my springs replaced and have been advised of the set that is the best option in their opinion so I'll see how the car is after that. Might have to do the sway bar down the line if it's still got some interesting handling...
