Hello,

A friend of mine has a 2003 Audi A4 B6 1,9 TDI AWX and has a very interesting problem. It started a few weeks ago and it's getting often and often (these last few days it's happening once a day).

He leaves the car "all ok" and next time he gets in the car and starts it up the following stops working:
-long beam
-long beam flash
-turn signals
-hazard lights light up but only half the duration
-horn
-electric windows
-window wiper
-washer jets

I'm not kidding, all the above stops working all of the sudden. If he drives a few miles, everything comes back to normal. It doesn't even seem to be related if the engine is warm or not. Once we opened the hood to check some obvious electrical connections (ground, battery terminals, fuses) and we left the turn signal on - it did not work and while we were looking puzzled at it, suddenly it "fixed itself".

I have literally no idea where to start looking.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Could it be the stalks them selves I’ve had these problems in other makes and we ended up changing the stalks

Take the knee bolster panel below the steering wheel off and check for water ingress. It can leak in from the ECU box or the bonnet pull cable grommit.
Almost directly below this area are all the relays etc for most of those components, I'm not saying 100% that this is the problem but it's a good thing to check. Remove the relays one at a time to check for dampness or furring on the contacts.

It seems that I have found the problem. It has not happened again for a week now.

Under the steering wheel, after I took the knee bolster panel off, above the fuses there is a ECU or something with 2 metal case fuses. The top of the case is metal and the rest is plastic and there are a lot of thick wires connected to it.

I took it off and opened it. Inside there were some loose connections. Soldered them all and now it seems the problem is solved.

I am back with bad news. Cold weather seems to have affected the car yet again. Now it has been 8 consecutive days since the above mentioned failures are affecting the car.
The only difference now is that the long beam ,long beam flash, turn signals, horn, electric windows, window wiper and washer jets are not working at all. It used to be intermittent, but now it's dead.

From what I have seen in Autodata, each of the above is linked to, according to their electric diagram, Multifunction Control module 1 and 2 (noted as A11-I and A11-II.

My understanding is that the Multifunction Control Module is actually the "Zentale Komfortelektronik" module 8E0 959 433 J, in my case. Is this correct? I have changed this module with 2 another modules (yet the same exact code) but the problem is not solved. So it's either the wrong module, or they are not the problem.

Anyone can help me with the pinout of this module?

That's the exact same thing as happened to mine, couldn't find the problem. I suspected the clock spring for the steering angle but never got round to changing it. I scrapped the car.

I have changed the below module and the problem seems to be fixed.

It is behind the steering wheel, behind the steering angle sensor.

Do you have the part number? The replacement car I bought, the headlight flash doesn't work so I might change this part as a matter of course.
