Ive been so annoyed with my clunk noise after taking the entire boot contents out, tool kit and boot tray etc and still not fixing it. I want for a drive tonight and then went outside with a torch. I found this, see whats wrong?

This is the other side.

I swear this car is falling apart. It should be easy to fix, just push that yellow thing upside where it should be. However, the yellow plastic is rock hard and has no give and the space between the wheel and arch is too small to get a good grip on it.

Annoying as all this is, your problems seem relatively easy to fix and could just be a result of rushing the PDI for the new reg issue. Personally I’d be going straight to my dealer and saying this is just not satisfactory on a car that’s a week or two old. A free service or two would however restore my faith.

Couldn’t agree more. They are very small issues. They’ll get fixed I’m sure

Did you confirm that's what's making the noise? I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure it's normal for the bump stop to sit on top of the shock absorber like that. At least when I lowered my s2000 they were all like that. Just looks like one side is extended a bit more and so more of the bump stop is showing? Then again if you were on level ground they should be identical.

You could always take the wheel off for better accessibility if you have the time, or just take it back to the dealership and let them fix it.

If this was me I'd be straight back to the dealers with this car and let them sort it, its not good enough to have so many issues so soon after taking delivery. Plus the faults like you have mentioned with tyre pressures will have been logged so when the dealer does a diagnostic they will show up, so any issues down the line can potentially give you hassle with future warranty claims if you have chosen to 'ignore' a problem. Cars are getting too clever these days. A mate runs a business supplying/servicing farm equipment and they are able to tell if a quad has been rolled or submerged in water just by doing a diagnostic.

I agree with NicoS85. They are bump stops & are free enough to slide up & down the shaft. I'd be amazed if these were the source of your clunk clunk.

Well that’s what I though but the other side is stuck right inside.... I’m going to have a chat with a dealer soon just to ask them to give it a look over

Shouldn't they be obscured by dust covers? They don't look quite right to me?

Asketh and receiveth. This is how both my sides look on flat level ground.

Thank you. So apart from a different colour both of yours are “in” the cylinder above and below it.... ahwell should be a simple thing to fix. Thank you for taking the time to do your photos

I wonder if the springs still have the transport blocks in on the rear?

I doubt it, the rear would be higher than the front and it would hop and skip over bumps.
1oldaudi needs to get advice from the dealership first and foremost...

Perhaps the bolts securing the strut hasn’t been torqued correctly, causing them to come slightly loose and allowing some travel, would be interesting to find out the exact issue once your dealer..

We don’t know it’s not and stranger things have happened. It wouldn’t hop just wouldn’t have the same amount of travel. There’s a reason it’s sitting higher that the one in the other pic.

Your right about going to the dealer tho

We do know because what I have stated is the result of leaving in the transport blocks. There is no suspension travel when they are fitted, thus the car will do the same as a washing machine when it's transport blocks are fitted - hop and skip across the floor.
Whilst it is not unknown for them to be left in when a PDI is carried out it is pretty obvious from the moment you look or drive the car that they are there..

No suspension travel? None come on you must know that’s just not true and the cases when people have found transport block s in hasn’t been immediate.

Mines just started making a noise from the rear passenger side. Sounds as if it’s coming from the boot area (Avant) near the fuse box. Not hearing a clunk as such, more like a rubbing noise. It’s progressively getting worse though. Booked in for Tuesday.

My car is the same as the OP's, I've got a couple of weeks off soon, I'm not sure that'll be enough time for them to fix all of the issues.

I had the same issue with mine on delivery, I took it back to the dealer and they pushed it back in and it has been fine ever since.

Coming up to 2 year and apart from that mine has been faultless ever since.

This is a known issue, same happened to mine and the tech from Audi even knew which side it would be before getting to the car. Simple 5 min fix @ audi, bit of lube and force it in.

why have you got photo of my car.... hehe
exactly the same issue found when searching for my clunk clunk noise.
road test tech took keys off me and fixed that in 5 minutes, they also booked car in, as in my case it wasn't that causing the noise, they took my car for a day but didn't tell me what they did...maybe some extra sound insulation/padding in boot
14 months on still occasionally get the noise back, unless Ive got use to it

think i have bigger issues starting now though.

Fingers crossed the link above should be to a recording of the Audi technician’s video of him explaining the quick fix. Hopefully it will be helpful to anyone who comes across the problem. Apologies for the quality I had to record my iPad playing as I couldn’t capture it off the Audi link.?

My A4 has been like this since day one, 18 plate. Diagnosed as a rear shock absorber mount over a week ago and is being sorted on Tuesday. Having read this thread I’m wondering if there was a simpler fix!
