Just wanted to see if this is possible. I hate it, wife hates it, and let's be fair 10k miles a year from a 1.4 saving the environment is not going to be one of its defining moments. All its gonna do is wreck the starter motor and battery.

So, can it be coded out or better still just flip the button usage so that it's always off and pressing it (so the stupid yellow light shows) means it's on/working.

Gawd it's just not a good feature. If it were a stonking V12 then I get it working to minimise emissions but then restarting surely gives a blast of hydrocarbons?

Anyway, rambling, can it be done and if so who, how much, how?

Not possible to code out however I can supply a start stop system memory module that once connected will remember the last "status" between ignition cycles... meaning that if you use your button to deactivate the start stop system my module will remember this setting until you choose yo activate it again, no matter how many times you start your engine :)

I'd actually like the opposite! Our car spends long periods stationary as it's driven mainly in the city. Can it be added onto the car? We don't have a button on the dash to activate/deactivate but I can't imagine it would be too difficult an addition.

Big job as there is both hardware and software involved unfortunately. Would be better off buying a replacement vehicle.

Easier just to turn it off by the keyboard being my sat with the ignition to on on just drains the battery.

Our 7 year old A1 1.4 TFSI has done 80k miles on original battery etc. Its never gone wrong - probably helped by being a relatively small petrol engine.
I was surprised that its lasted this long and a big sceptic (it was our first stop/start car). Perhaps Audi properly specced the starter/alternator/battery. It also seems to protect itself pretty well from low voltage / extreme load conditions.

If you've been a pedestrian/cyclist in or near congested traffic I'd think you'd have a different view.

Back to your question. I think on other Audis it was possible to use VCDS or similar to change the voltage level value that the software checks before allowing stop/start to a large value (e.g. 15V).

Fair points; I am a cyclist and a pedestrian and I tend not to stand behind/near cars for too long :pride: hee hee I see your point, maybe in big cities but I don't live in one any more.

7 years on the same battery! You (and Audi or whoever made the battery) deserve a medal! I have the same engine in the A1 and the car is 6 years old so that's good to know.

Aha! Yes that would be an idea. I know you'll probably think just press the button every time I start up, but it becomes tedious and it's downright dangerous I find when it shuts down just as you want to pull away usually. I don't like it, but admittedly I don't think it's worth the hassle to change it.

Ours is a manual A1 and its pretty controllable/definitive (never tried an A1 S tronic in start/stop mode). Once you stop and go into neutral and lift up the clutch the engine either stops or you get the stop/start not available messages. Clutch in and engine immediately restarts if it has stopped. So if I don't want to engage start/stop I have the option of just keeping the clutch pedal depressed (or I want to restart theengine just before the lights change).

In my auto A4 its a bit more tricky to control.
