OK, 12-months on and as a daily user this machine is fantastic and with sometimes a 48mpg on local roads too; however, the ride on Staffordshire ridge-repaired (Ha!!!) and potholed roads is getting beyond a joke.

OK, wheels are 18-inch rotors, as per STD; but with 40-profile tyres (not the 35 profile STD items) to provide a tad more cushioning; PLUS a slight reduction in tyre pressures, but even so...

The 3-Audi we have give different ride comfort: our RS3 is just as good as it's gonna get for me even on 30-profile fronts and an upgraded ARB at the rear; Our TT roadster Sport is just soooo nice; but the A1 is a teeth jarring joke on our Staffordshire roads.

And YES! I have discussed this at length with our local councillors wanting my vote in recent by-elections and AGAIN with our local MP who'll be wanting my vote in the forthcoming parliamentary election. Got letters from the Chairman of Staffordshire County Council too but all a load of B*LL*CKS: so gonna be doing my own thing.

So a set of KW 'street comfort' coilover springs and shocks zooming my way. STD ride height will be maintained but the shock absorbers will be adjusted to suit my own and Staffordshire roads needs.

Just sayin'. More later...

Job done and worth every penny; car remains a delight but now with effective shock absorption - even on Staffordshire ***** road surfaces... :yahoo:

I can't see them lasting that long , surely it was a case of changing the dampers for Bilstein .

Nope! Did me sums, £s not an issue, and now HAPPY!

Each to their own: pays yer money and takes yer choice, and all that...

Just magic now: with 16-click KW range-settings, originally set at 8-clicks all-round, and now down to 6-clicks all-round; the ride and handling, even on the STD OEM 18-inch rims, is pure bliss!

And I also took some 'toe-in' out of the steering; the car's no longer nervous at speed and tracks just perfect; can't believe it the same car.

Supercharged and then turbocharged 1.4 litre engine (with 7-speed DSG) is still ACE; occasionally returns 52mpg on A/B roads but also just 25mpg - all dependant on driver-mood and/or how late we are for hospital appointment.

Sorry Sandra, just telling it like it is...

Love all of your reviews, I'm dying to get an A1 for my wife and you've kinda pushed me even more than she has been.

I'm thinking a 1.4 tfsi 150 with a remap to 180 or so. More than enough for her and just enough for me.

We have a 1.4tfsi 140 and its great. Pickup from low revs is what makes it feel quick, not sure you need a remap straight away...

Op I went and bought my wife a 122bhp tfsi 2 weeks ago and decided to sell my Golf as we only really need one car. Very impressed with it, but the over-excitable steering feels nervous at 50+mph. I will see if we can reduce some toe in as you suggested...no odd tyre wear with doing that?

Could do with being a little quicker which will happen just before spring when the weather free to nicer.

No 'odd tyre wear' at all, even across the surface of the tyre with zero lifting at the edges.

Swapped over to winter rubber earlier this week; 18" rotors as per STD with Toyo Snowprox: pressures the same as summer rubber at 37psi front and 31psi rear.

Ride and everything just superb, not nervous at all. Great car, and darn quick with 185bhp and a 7-speed DSG, it's a laugh (for a 72-year old...) not wanting to ride the Rs3 everyday.

Oh, and windscreen wiper vibration now 100% gone with PIAA's brilliant wiper blades.

Lovely thanks. Definitely going to get some of those wipers, mine don't Judder ;) but they aren't great.

Age is just a number my friend!

The PIAA are superb!

I've 1-set of OEM and 2-sets of Bosch Aero, and all 3-sets are mega low use. If someone would give a poor OAP a few shillings for 'em :whistle2:

My problem, I think, was the windscreen, previous owners had complained of wiper vibration and Audi dealers didn't sort it long term - I have the records. I was about to replace windscreen but thought best to give these PIAA blades a go and for sure these PIAA babies sorted the issue very quickly.

So old I've forgotten what you said previously...

I had an Audi A1 1.4TFSi befoer my A4 That had 18s on and was an S-Line and boy that was a firm as my Type-R.
To get a bit more out of it I had a TMC tuning box & DTuk pedal box on it. That really did transform the car it to a little beastie.

Love the BE A1.....had one nearly five years ago, and still have very fond memories of it.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the suspension. At least it has worked out for you.

Ours was a pure opportunist purchase, Spike. Our A2 did everything but no DSG. So I wanted a 3-door petrol A1 with DSG and heated seats and SAT NAV. Went onto the Audi UK second hand car list and there it was, just the one, at Blackburn Audi, and in Daytona grey - which we like.

So, 100-miles away and I couldn't drive/travel due to recent surgery, but with a 12-month warranty which would give me time to sort it we telephoned and bought it. Didn't know anything about its supercharged/turbocharged engine then but we do now.

Collected it 4-weeks later and 18-months on it's a keeper :yahoo:
